why should the losers get a ring?

Every sport does it. The losing superBowl team gets League Championship rings as in Hockey and Basketball. Doesn’t bother me. I just want one.LOL

Well, if i lost a Word Series and still got a ring, i’d love it. Wouldn’t you??

It’s telling them that they are the second best team of the year.
Wouldn’t you want something like that?
I mean you are second out of 30 teams.
Walking away with nothing would seem depressing, and unfair.

the tigers, winning the American League pennant, is special. they got to the World Series. Thats an accomplishment. I know, I see your point, but winning the gauntlet of an American League was pretty impressive. Getting through 2 rounds of playoffs is hard to do.
It’s sort of like how hockey gives trophies for each conference winner. It’s a long season, and conference/league winners should be rewarded in some way. Rings and trophies work, but they still have to watch the other team celebrate the ultimate prize.

Do you honestly think it’s easy to win a pennant?
This is nothing new. John Smoltz and Chipper Jones, for example, each have 4 pennant rings and a WS ring.
BTW, the winner’s rings are bigger.

you also going to start complaining about them handing out silver and bronze medals at the olympics? Every sport does it…its still amazing to finish out 2nd to everyone else in that sport and you deserve to receive something.

Noone remembers the team that loses the world series? Right like noone remembers who the Mets beat in the 86 world series, with an infamous error committed by a player for the AL team in that series. Nobody remembers that AL team that plays in eastern Massachusetts.
Do I think that the runner-ups deserve their own ring? Yes. They get a ring, they don’t get the notoriety of being hailed as the world champions. They don’t get the trophy, they don’t get the big parade in their own city. They don’t get the memorable audio clip of their announcer calling the last out of the series an announcing that their team is the world champions.
They DO get an acknowledgment that implies that they earned the right to be there in the world series. That team proved that in crunch-time during the playoffs that they where the best team that league had to offer.
But those rings that the Tigers have say “American League Champions”, the rings that the Tigers would have rather have belong on the ring fingers of in the Cardinals organization. Those are the ones that say “World Series Champions.”

Well, those “losers” were better than everyone else in their league. That’s why they were league CHAMPIONS.
I’m a lifelong Tigers fan and I’m never going to forget the 2006 season – except perhaps for the way it ended. In Tigertown we spent all winter concentrating on what a fun ride it had been and how much fun the season ahead will be. That team deserves all the recognition it can get.
Who was it the Tigers played in the World Series anyway? (Just kidding)
