Who should I contact if my landlord has breached the warranty of habituality?
Two months after moving into a unit, I’ve had to deal with an infestation of drain flies, worms, snails, slugs, and various insects in my bathroom. I can’t shower without sandles on for fear of stepping onto something. The bathroom is completely unsanitary. Mold has been growing in our medicine cabinet from the leaking pipes from upstairs that have wet our walls. When it rains, worms crawl from underneath our tub. We had a plumber come in to check out the problem. He recommended pulling out the tub and floor tiles. He also stated that our bathroom should have been condemned. My landlord didn’t want to pay for the repairs. Now my landlord wants to end our lease without giving us some kind of reimburstment. I’m thinking about taking legal action but I don’t know where to start. What should I do?

I would go straight to court and consult legal aid

First see if they are a member of the apartment association, if they are then file a complaint with them, and ask them what you can do and your rights. And, also file a complaint with the better business bureau

Maybe your landlord realizes that it is uninhabitable and is therefore forced to end the lease, as he/she is not able to live up to the habitability requirement. I think you should contact the housing authority in your area. Perhaps your landlord should pay your moving expenses since the lease is ending early. If the lease is month to month, I’m not sure that you have any legal right to get money returned to you, since you continued to live there.

Your landlord rented a unit that was not fit to be occupied until the repairs had been made. I’d sue to get back my deposit and I’d try suing for relocation charges. I believe he should have to pay you for whatever it cost to move. I am a landlord myself and what yours did is not acceptable to the profession of being a landlord.
