what happens to fabric if left in storage too long?

I am buying an antique couch with new upholstery and need to store it in a storage building for awhile. It is insulated but not what you would call “climate controlled”. also, I live in TX so the summers are hot, I’m just worried that keeping it in storage too long will mess up the fabric or make it stink. We have never had rat or roach problems either Is it an ok idea to keep this in storage for 6 months or less? Will anything happen to it? Dry out, etc? I’ve just heard before not to store furniture because it will ruin the fabric…. just want to know if this is true or not.
Thanks!

It will ruin fabric, but not within a few months. The circumstance should also be conducive to deterioration. Dirt, mold, mice, fat, water, etc. Do your own cleaning, disinfecting and wrapping – nobody to blame – except you.
Peace.

place unwrapped scented toilet soap in it and on it , this will keep silver fish away, buy pots of lime from your hardware store which will absorb the moisture if any . and get someone to check it out every few weeks

six months is such a short time
now six years is another thing
it shouldn’t bother it at all
maybe cover it with some bed sheets to keep the dust off of it – that should be about all you need to do to it
