What else do I need to buy?
I’m getting a puppy in 5 days and I’m so excited. I have a list of things I already have but what else do I need?
1.leash
2.collar
3.food-well I’m getting that on the day I get him.
4.toys
5.training pads
6.treats
7.ear cleaner
8.toothbrush and paste
9.crate
9.blanket-I’m gettiningfrom the breeder and it has the scent of his family
10.collar
11.name tag
11.shampoo
12.conditioner
13.flea and tick repeller
clicker -for training
14.nail filer-to care for his nails
15. grooming supplies.
For food I’m going to be feeding Authority, but if u have a better option feel free to tell. I’m gettining the food from petsmart so if you suggest a different type of food it needs to be in stock at petsmart.
Thank you to all who answers. And for the people that want to know he is a miniature schnauzer and shih tzu mix . Please don’t criticize me on how I shouldn’t get a mutt cuz its not your responsibilty. I can’t be 100% sure that the person I’m getting -continued
getting the puppy from is a bad breeder. Well this is what I’m getting from the breeder so he can’t be all that bad: a puppy pack, health guarentee, contract. The breeder has also suggested to go visit his place to see the dam and sire including where he raises them from.
Thank you to all that help me
I Really want to trian the pupyp to go outside but I’m afraid of how the weather gets sometimes ad I do not want to take my puppy out in the middle of the night. Srroy to all about not getting a puppy from a shelter..I feel guilty. I have visted many adoption sites and adoption event centers. Most of dogs I have seen don’t fit into what I expcect in getting a dog:
1.too old srry but I want a puppy
2.My dad has allergies with specific breeds example He will be fine with a maltese yet not a yorkie
3.Have certain ”needs”
At least I TRIED unlike many others in looking for a dog
Oh and the breeder is giving me a bag of food that the puppy has started on so I already know about the gradual change in his diet.
schnoodle mom: I am wondering y u said that chances are I’m gettig the puppy from a bad breeder cuz of the mixed breed thing yet u seem to have a gotte a mix to and most likely it will be from a bad breeder.

you have a lot of the basics down the only thing i reccomend NOT getting is the training pads, train the dog to go outside to do it’s business, training pads are a waste of time and money.
I did it and it worked.

and yet breeder wins against a shelter again.
What kind of food – try wellness or newmans own…so he is healthy. good luck with it all!!!! Prepare for lots of fun, energy, weeeweees and poopies
PS: train your dog to go pee outside…i have seen dogs that can do both but it is really rare.
I did it and it worked.

Forget Authority. Purchase Blue Buffalo instead, it’s the best quality food available in PetSmart, and you want to start your puppy off on the right food.
You didn’t mention a food & water bowl, but I assume you know to get those.
How about a harness for when it’s time to introduce the puppy to the concept of walking? A leash connected directly to the collar can be frightening for a young puppy, and you may want to get him used to walking with you, before doing that, so it’s less likely that he’ll pull and get spooked by the pressure against his neck.
Also, get a good vet to provide the proper vaccinations, and to neuter your pup once he’s at that age.
I did it and it worked.

looks like you have got it covered, but for the food you need to start him/her off with what ever the breeder was feeding him/her. then slowly change to the brand you choose. if it where me i would feed IAMS just my opinion.
I did it and it worked.

Health guarantee is only good if its for two years or more – that’s when most genetic problems are caught. Chances are this person isn’t a good breeder since he IS breeding mutts (good breeders breed for the betterment of a breed, not to create new ones.) Were his dogs genetic tested?
Anyway, your list looks perfect! Get rid of the training pads though – it’s best to teach the dog to go outside right off the bat. Dogs who are trained on potty pads take longer to train to go outside and chances are he won’t be able to tell the pad from a newspaper. I’ve seen small dogs that learn on the pads but never learned off of them!
Add a vet check in there for within a few days of getting the pup. You’ll want to know if it’s ill or has any parasites or fleas before the warranty runs out – then you’re stuck with an ill pup and will have to spend more money to “fix” it (that’s what most poor breeders do – guarantee the dog for a few days because they know the owner wont bring the pup in for at least a week, then the owner is stuck with the pup and they have the money!)

You sound fairly well set. I’m not going into the food thing because petsmart really doesn’t carry much in the way of really good food.
With the breeder you can’t really know about the breeder unless you check out his place, that really is the best thing to do. See how the other dogs interact with people (the breeder and you)
Please for the love of god don’t use puppy pads, they only cause problems later on
As for your puppy, good luck!!
ADD, for some reason I only saw Shih tzu, if he’s breeding mixes he can’t be that great of a breeder.

that’s a lot of stuff!!I don’t think it will be near as hard as you imagine.Go with the flow and just enjoy him.Remember training can take months…my shih tzu(whom I love to bits)wasn’t potty trained until 6 mos.She kept pooping in the kitchen! All of a sudden she got it!I trained her to ring a bell by the door when she wanted out!!You can’t just start him on new food, you have to introduce it gradually. You probably know these things but anyway good luck and have fun!

Baby gates. When you can’t be actively watching your puppy, this is the best way to ensure he doesn’t go where he doesn’t belong and possibly chew or wee on things that you hold dear.
I’m also a firm believer that anybody that has a dog should have a Kong. It’s a great way to keep your puppy entertained and it’s very interactive, and can be filled with treats to keep him even more engaged!
Aside from that, it looks like you’re ready!
