We own a cat she keeps getting fleas, and tape worms, see details for more info.?
We live in a trailor park, we have treated the yard, the house, given the cat baths with flea shampoo. Even tried the advantic and the other stuff also, but we can’t stop her from getting tape worms. Its to much to pay 30$ a month for shots to rid her from them. The pills are not as much but it does add up. She is strickly an indoor cat. I know if we could get everybody to treat there yards it would help. Also if people would stop droping there strays around here. HELP any ideas. Or do I just keep treating yard, home, bathe cat and keep giving her pills when she gets them.
ok i’m back, we have tried treating yard, cat (with all kinds of topical treatments, etc.) treated the intire house all at same time. We have even talked with our vet. All he could say was it was the strays in area, squirls, all other animals, and that the fleas come in on our shoes and clothing and all we can do is to keep treating her. One idea I might have is to pull up all 3 rooms of carpet and put down wood floors. Do any of you think of that idea. I’ll read later if I have any new updates. Thanks everyone.

I am confused. How is she getting sick if she doesn’t go outside? I would take her to the vet.

Use frontline and strongid (or another worming medication) at the same time. Also treat the yard and house around the same time as well. The tapeworms complete the life cycle of the flea, and the flea completes the life cycle of the tapeworm. That is why they keep coming back, you have to kill everything at once. Hope this works for you. Best of luck, Rachel

Tapeworms come from the fleas. But the fleas don’t live on the cat. So if she is an indoor cat, you may have fleas somewhere in your home. I would raid your home of fleas using a bug bomb or something similar and also try washing the cat’s bed where she sleeps, you can treat the carpet to try and get rid of any fleas that may be hiding there.

Advantage does not kill tapeworms. There is a pill called program that will get rid of the tapeworms. It is expensive but it works. Cats get tapeworms from fleas. When they groom themselves they eat the flea and thats how they get tapeworms. You should try to keep your cat on a monthly topical flea control like Revolution it also prevents cats from getting roundworms, hookworms, heartworms, and ear mites.
It doesnt matter if you treat the yard it matters if you treat the cat. Fleas are everywhere the only way to control the problem is to keep on a monthly preventative

the fleas carry the tape worms so if she has fleas and eats one.. it infests her with the tape worms.. DO NOT USE FLEA COLLARS.
pick up any strays and take to the shelter or pound.
keep grass cut short.
Vaccumm often, launder all bedding and toys.. and I am wondering if she is indoor only – how is she getting fleas???
use a flea comb if you are treating her that often for fleas.. all flea medication is somewhat risky for long term use, adding garlic to her food MIGHT offer some help but sounds like you have flea eggs in your carpet too or something

she must be getting the fleas from somewhere. You need to continue with Advantage monthly ALL the time. Vacuum the entire house, if you have a bag vacuum THROW away the bag OUTSIDE!!!! Wash any bedding that the cat uses in the hottest water possible.
you can also bring home fleas so you may also need to treat the yard on a regular basis
