I would like to ask all of the so-called UK Wildcats Fans that are defending Tubby Smith to take the time to go to this link and read this article. I agree with him totally . He states facts related to this issue better than any other articles or comments I have read so far….

I believe They should support TUBBY 26 win average in 10 years. That’s great plus Tubby doesn’t play a cupcake skid like Boeheim does every year.

I am a Cards fan, however while Tubby is a great coach…lets face it, the Cats have definitely been in a downward spiral for a few years. They are one of Basketballs most legendary teams and should not accept being down for to long.

True Kentucky fans agree with him too. Tubby needs to shape it up or leave. He needs to find a way to get these talented kids to
take their “jobs” seriously.

I’m a big Kentucky fan and have grown up loving Kentucky but I am not defending Tubby. I agree with everything in that article. Something needs to be done about Tubby to get Kentucky back on top where they should be. Whether that is to find a new head coach or recruit better players, action needs to be taken. It’s been too long since Kentucky has even been in the final four.

Hey brianandmartha…. I read the article you recommended and I agree that this writer seems to know what he’s talking about. It also seems as if he has sources in the right places to furnish him with facts to write about instead of just using his opinions or feelings on the matter. I believe feelings have a tendency to change when you are faced with cold hard facts. And I believe if the Pro-Tubby Smither’s would face the facts this writer is making known they would feel differently as well. I know my feelings have changed.
First of all let me say…I am not a Tubby hater. I believe he is a man with very good character qualities in many respects. I know he places a great emphasis on the importance of an education to the players and expects them to do their best scholastically. But we have professors at the university to do that job. We don’t need him to be a professor; we need him to be a coach. I hear he is very close to the players on a personal level and tries to be there for them if they need him off the basketball court. But they have parents for that job. We don’t need him to be a father; we need him to be a coach.
I have spent 9 of the last 10 seasons arguing in Tubby’s defense that he is a good coach. A fact I still believe. But….
( Yes, there is a “but”)….I no longer believe he is the right coach for KY. He has displayed reasons for me to feel that he settles for “good enough.” I have always felt that unless you do the best you can, instead of just doing what was “good enough”, then good enough is all you‘ll ever be. That is why I feel the way I do at this point in time. As long as Tubby is the head coach of KY….”Good enough” is all we‘ll ever be.
So to all of you who feel that Tubby Smith is the best man as coach for UK, and feel a need to express your opinions or let your feelings be known without having the facts, let me give you a piece of advice….”It is better to keep your mouths shut and let people wonder if you’re a fool or not, than to open them and remove all doubt.”
P.S. Makes me wonder if most of these people are even KY fans….Maybe they are KY haters instead of Tubby lovers and enjoying the fact that their teams are finally able to beat KY!!!

Well you got your wish, he’s going to Minnesota.
How many coaches have run a program that has consistently been competitive, graduates students and stays out of trouble from the NCAA? Tubby Smith is one of them. Good luck Kentucky, you’ll need it. It’s a shame that wins are the only thing that matters in college sports. You’d think that winning was part of the equation, along with teaching teamwork, staying morally upright and learning how to be better people.

Something has to be done.
I do research for the department of marketing at U.K. one question that they survey students is why the came to U.K., a fair amount responded (can’t remember the exact number) “BECAUSE OF THE BASKETBALL PROGRAM.” If we keep loosing ball games, more and more within the state could begin to follow U of L (one of my friend’s loyalty is already waning) or worse, simply not care. If this happens, it could mean big issues for the sports program and the university.
I know little about basketball am no Tubby hater and know my loyalties, but I have read the numbers, and I have to be loyal to the university as well.
I say U.K does whatever necessary to win ball games.

So Tubby has the last two years with double digit losses.
It is always easy to say anyone could have won with the previous coach’s recruits, but it takes more than recruiting to win.
Tubby is intelligent, talented and honest. Many of his players have gone on to the NBA and he does get his share of blue chips – look at the Street & Smith mags from previous years.
I beleive if he stayed, he would continue to win and even get another NCAA ring on his finger, but he has had naysayers from the day he was chosen.
I’m a true Red Blooded Card Fan, but it is embaressing how a few UK fans have been so critical and negative with Tubby over the years.
May he win at Minn and I just hope the next UK coach does not end up cheating like Sutton did…
Maybe a young stud will come along and win a little then come over to UofL when Pitino is ready to retire…

In an interview on TV, I once heard Tubby Smith himself say that he was aware of all the expectations and pressure entailed in being the head Basketball Coach at KY. When you make the money and I’m not just talking about the KY coach’s salary and bonuses because there are millions of dollars worth of endorsements and commercials that go along with being the KY coach. When you include every dollar a KY coach makes, then you expect exceptional performance. If a CEO doesn’t aspire to a company’s expectations, then he’s fired. It’s all business guys. I think Tubby Smith was an absolutely fine man, but he obviously wasn’t the CEO KY expected.
