Termite Bond for a Home in Jacksoville, FL?
We have lived in our home in Jacksonville, FL for close to 2 years after having lived in South Florida for the past 20 years.
The builder of the home is partnered with a local pest control company who provides a bond on our home in the event of termite damage.
Each year they come out and collect their $250, perform a visual inspection, and spread some granules on our lawn.
I realize termites are a big issue in Northern Florida, however, I consider this to be a scam as $250 a year seems like a lot of money for spreading granules on the ground.
Does anyone have any input that will make me realize this is a worthwhile thing to continue with?

Go to your local store (here in California, that’s Home Depot, and OSH), and have a look at the termite prevention products yourself. You might find it easier to put the termite deterrents into the ground yourself.
On spring days, watch to make sure that termites aren’t coming out of the ground, and if they are, you’ll need to do some more work.
been there, done that. live in Central Fla

If you are not under contract to retain this service i would drop it myself. $250 a year to spread termite killer is outrageous.
If however, they do an annual inspection of the exterior and interior of the home, I would retain the service as the inspection will alert them if the granules didn’t prevent the termites.
I hope this has helped.

When I lived in N. Central Florida (Ocala), I had a pest control company that did the original termite work and paid them $19 a month to do all pest services after that. They also inspected for termites and covered any damage done while under contract. Your cost is really high if it is for termite control only.
