Stuff stolen out of my car, worth reporting?
2 days ago all of our fishing stuff was in one of our cars. We go fishing a bit. We had 2 open faced rods($60), a fly rod ($55), and a tackle box($24) with tackle($50). We had left his fishing license($30) ,hunting license($23) and doe license($7) in the tackle box. About $250 of stuff stolen total that we know of. We recently cleaned out our other car and placed some other stuff in the car. but anyways yesterday night around 10pm we were talking about fishing and I asked if he took the stuff out of the car because I didn’t see it in my car. Sure enough he didn’t, and we found our selves victim to thieves. We live in a tiny one gas station town, with some crack heads about 5 houses down. I just don’t know if there is any point in reporting this because I don’t think anything will be done about it if I do. Anybody know if I’m wrong? It’s not that I don’t care because I do its just that I don’t know how some one can be so mean and stupid to do something like that. They are probably not that bright of criminals because they took the fly rod but left the tiny clear tackle box with all the dry flies and wet flies in it.(fake bait for fly fishing.($25)) I just think Its lucky we don’t keep too much stuff in out vehicles. I’m gonna check for more missing stuff later today. (btw no broken windows so either we forgot to lock one of the doors or they opened them some how.)

Report it. They say a small thief becomes a bigger thief. Put an end to it in the early stages to prevent anymore damages.

Your report is more than just a record of your loss
.
It also tells the police that there might be a person in the area that needs to be watched
.
To not tell is to tell the police that there is no problem where you live
.
And to do that is to open the car doors to all the cars in the area because the crooks will think that the people there are to scared to tell
.

I wouldn’t report.
I don’t think police will put too many men on the case of the missing fly fishing equipment.
Move on and make sure next time lock your car.

Yes it’s worth reporting. However, it’s also a clear reminder to lock your vehicles up at night.

If you’re going to turn it into insurance as a claim, then yes, you will need a report for your insurance company.
If not, it’s up to you.

Even if no one is ever caught, and they probably won’t be, and the stuff is never returned, at least the police will be aware of the situation. It might get you more presence from them.
Additionally, if you itemize deductions for your taxes, you can take stolen items as a loss. Having reported the situation will give you additional back up.

Theft is theft is theft. What more can I say?
Obviously you had approximately $250. worth of merchandise that you believe was stolen from your vehicle. Theft is an offence. You should report it to police. If you don’t, you may have a problem with your insurance company processing the claim..especially if it’s discovered the car wasnt locked. I wouldn’t come right out & actually say one of the doors was locked. That could be considered neglect on your part where the insurance is concerned.
