Should selamectin control TICS as well as fleas?

I have applied a 2 litre tube of selamectin onto my (4 y.o.) Great Dane today. This selamectin chemical is claimed to control fleas. Should it also control the TICS that are rampant in the South-central USA states (focusing on the TEXAS PANHANDLE)?
This year’s tic-season is promised to be another bumper-crop of “those suckers.”
(If this matters) I use the REVOLUTION(r) brand that his veterinarian recommends and provides.
Thanks for knowledgeable advice.

Hi there… Revolution (selamectin) can affects ticks, however it takes up to four or five days to do it. Dogs can pick up several ticks at a time, therefore four or five days is not fast enough.
You may like to consider a product called Preventic that works for ticks alone.
Advantages:
Preventic collars are easy to use and highly effective. Ticks attach, become paralyzed in an hour or two, then fall off and die. In order to transmit Lyme disease, ticks must remain attached for a day or more. Because Preventic collars kill ticks quickly, they offer a degree of protection from Lyme disease.
Disadvantages:
Preventic collars must be replaced every two or three months. Amitraz, the active ingredient, spreads slowly backwards from the neck to the hindquarters, so Preventic collars work less well on the back half of large dogs and are not a good choice for dogs that swim or are bathed frequently.
