Question for moms who don’t have twins.?
Honestly…
Do you feel like people with twins are blessed, cursed, or neither? I am getting sick of people’s comments! Sometimes I get nice comments but sometimes… oooooohhhh!
Tonight my husband, myself, and our 3 month old went out to eat and then we went to WalMart after dinner to get some groceries and a couple tee shirts for myself, and some ant poison for outside.
Anyway, in the checkout there was a woman behind me with her daughter, son, and grandkids. Well, one of the grandkids was the same age as our twins (who weren’t with us) and the woman made some comment like “Just wait until he is this age. You don’t know what you’re in for!” and my husband said:
“Well, we have twins at home with my dad who are the same age as that cute little guy!”
The woman’s face dropped and she said: “You have twin girls?” and I smiled and said “Yes!” and she rolled her eyes and said she would have killed herself.
Seriously?!
I was pissed. Who says something like that to a woman who has twins and a baby? Seriously? I just thought it was annoying.
So then my husband said that I was a really wonderful mother and well suited to have twins. Ha! Slam!
So seriously… do most people who don’t have twins feel that way? I think that if you love being a mom then you would be great to have twins. It doesn’t take anyone special, you learn as you go. I’m glad that she never had them, though, because I’d feel sorry for her kids. That woman had a crappy attitude!
I think all of you are right on! You made me smile.
They ARE a handful and it’s stressful having 3 kids under 2 but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my life. I could imagine much worse things to be stressed about than having lots of little kids vying for attention!

She was probably just really stressed out I would assume.
My two oldest are always confused for twins. I have 3 kids born 13 months apart each. The biggest gap is 26 months. It’s hard, but fun !

I dont have twins, but I do have a couple of sets in my family. And my aunt used to get comments like that. I think that they are just ignorant people. Yes sometimes they can be handfuls, but the comment she made was uncalled for. But I do beleive that it takes a special person to be mothers of muliples.

i personally would love to have twins! i lived with twins who were not handled well and they were a bit much but i think that is just the way they were being raised. maybe that women just happened to have children who misbehaved and figured everyone elses must be the same.

That was very ignorant, she could have kept that to her self. Twins are a blessing to me and you are so lucky.

In kind of a backwards way, I think she meant that as a compliment. As in, she isn’t strong enough to handle 2 at once, and obviously you are. Not exactly polite, but I don’t think there was any malice in the statement.
As for me, hmm…. am glad I don’t have twins. Would have loved them, certainly, but again, don’t think I’m strong enough. That’s twice the work at once.
I do think they are darling though, and admire those that raise them.

I don’t have twins, and no I would never say anything like that to a woman that did… My cousin actually just had twins( a boy and a girl) and they are soooo cute. i couldn’t see how anyone would consider them enough to commit suicide, lol… I just tried to figure out which one to hold first:)

I prayed for twins when I was pregnant. No twins for me. I admire women with twins. You go through twice as much as we do.
She was out of line for sure! Good for your Hubby!! Go Hubby!!
She was probably one of those mothers who did little for her own kids and felt it a burden to have her grand kids with her. Shame on Her!!
Having twins is neither a blessing or curse. It’s a choice that was made by a Higher source that you would be a Great mother to them. ?

The fact that we have kids – twins or not, is a blessing. Keep nurturing your attitude of loving being a mom. Our kids need that attitude and that they feel that from us as mothers, as friends to them no matter what.
Also, i believe the partnership of you and your husband is very important always in helping each other, loving each other and understanding one another.

no i would never think that or say that to another mother. i would think if i saw them – awwww! i want some more babies (yes my kids are getting older so i want more. haha) or omg how does she do it? i bet shes a saint! it would be one of those two things.
although i have to admit, i always wanted twins. i know it may seem silly, but my dad was a fraternal twin and my aunt had fraternal twins. i always thought i was going to have them.
i say you are a saint and probably have kids that i would be awwwing over. just smile and ignore the idiots. its all you can do.
ps – kudos to hubby! sounds like an awesome one.

I don’t have twins but have two boys that are 14 months apart and people have given me comments like that before because everyone thinks they are twins. I just smile and say that sometimes it gets hard but it’s worth every minute of it. I would love to have twins though. I think you are very blessed.

Aww I think twins are wonderful, I would love to have twins. I’m sure its stressful at times, but since that lady has never been in your shoes she has no right to judge you or your twins. Dont worry about people like that though, usually they are just jealous.
