My Dog’s Flea Drops Don’t Work…..?

Tried several top of the line brands and they wear off after a week. The poor thing is allergic to fleas and he picks them up on his walks and is itching himself raw. Rather not go the the vet if I don’t have to, tight budget. Any advice?

Are you sure the fleas are being picked up outside?
Clean your carpets — or at least vacuum them — thoroughly. Smart fleas will jump off and live in the carpet for a while.

You can buy Frontline at Pet supply stores. Frontline is the BEST! Here is a tip for killing fleas in the house. Vacuuming them alone does not work. Put a flea collar in the vacuum bag or canister. When sucked up, the fleas will die!

Have you tried “Advantage” ?
You can order it on-line so you don’t have to go to the vet.

Comb your dog, clean the house well and disinfect carpeting, etc, then use drops.

Hi, I had the same problem last year; it’s the flea poo that causes the problem. So a cool bath with something very mild like baby shampoo (you can use the rest yourself lol.) And a flea collar, I also dusted harry and everything else with puppy flea powder because it’s milder too.
BTW if you live by the sea or a lake take the dog for a swim, cold water kills them within a second.

Yes frontline plus is the best stuff.I worked at a pet store and have alot experience with this.Nothing else really works.Also,treat your carpets and furniture with a zodiac flea and tick spray.

I know the tight budget thing, go anyway, I am sure the vet will make payment arrangements with you. Vets have a product called advantix, or close to that spelling and this works, let it be on the dog for 24 hours and then give it a bath in regular dog shmpoo having a damp cloth ready do fleas don’t run into the eyes and ears. clean that house so very well, steam clean the carpet. Pick up the throw rugs as they breed under them. empty vaccum cleaner oputside. Flea collars don’t work, fleas breed under them too. Spray your yard a section at a time, usually a day before it rains and don’t bring the poision in on you nor let dog step in it. Good Luck, I ben there. It is a pain, and the dog more than likely has tape worms because of the fleas. Vet girl…Vet.
