My dogs are super itchy?
Ever since we picked our dogs up from the boarders a week and a half ago, my two dogs have been super itchy. I don’t think they have fleas; I haven’t seen any on them and they’ve had fleas before. They were boarded at a farm where they were allowed to roam about and play with other dogs during the day.
My husband and I have tried bathing them, dousing them in baby powder, washing their beds, giving them Benadryl and have been putting hydrocortizone on the few spots they have itched enough to break skin. This is very out of character for them and they are not sleeping well at night because of it. Any ideas what it could be and how to treat it?
I am trying to hold off on taking them to the vet right away if it’s something I can fix myself.

if they have been brought up on a farm they might have picked up a bit of red mite, tiny little minute flies thats associated with livestock of chickens evn wood damp wood which i should imagine theres a lot on a farm.
try not to put talc on cause you might be feeding the iching problem. its not a good idea to keep bathing as youll lose all the oils in a dogs coat.
you can try a dry shampoo were no water is needed thats wot i use you just rub it into the coat thendry with a towel tillfluffed up comb and cuddle good luck mary

Bathe them in special shampoo for dogs that has oatmeal in it, that will soothe their skin and make sure to also use doggie conditioner. After that do a real good blow dry and brush. they will love it and their skin will feel great. i have a lab that is a constant scratcher and also looses a lot of hair and it works great for them. Also I have recently found a scratch relief spray at the pet store called Hot Spot Spray, it is 12st century brand, i spray this on him every few days and on spots when he still scratches. Check out the link.

I am not sure but I have a similar experience with my dog. He didn’t get the “hot spots” like your dogs though. His problem was that he was allergic to everything. So allergic in fact that he developed a bacterial infection on his skin. This could be what your dogs have. Something at the farm could have made them allergic that they were not normally exposed to. The Benadryl would have helped to calm down the allergy but the bacteria is still there…and what’s worse…they could be allergic to the bacteria! The best thing to do is to take them to the vet…they will give you antibiotics and an anti-microbial shampoo and maybe a few other things. Watch their ears…make sure that they are not getting ear infections because of this.
