Which is it? A tick or a “flea”? A flea will jump so it wouldn’t be stationary. If it’s a tick take a cotton ball and apply some nail polish remover to it. Hold it against the tick and it’ll come loose.
If it’s an ear mite you’ll have to see your vet for drops or salve.

Flea shampoo will kill the flea, but where there is one, there are probably more. You need to buy Frontline and use it once a month to keep the fleas and ticks off your dog.

it might be a tick it depends on where you are….
if you are in Southern California you might have ticks in the desert but not many in the city…..
Ticks are very hard to get off an animal..
ask your vet the best way to get rid of them
flea and tick collars and some sprays and powders work too.
if you want to get rid of one tick on the ear have someone hold your dog and then get a match or lighter to burn the tick. JUST BE CAREFULL NOT TO BURN THE DOG……….

If you saw one flea, your dog is probably infested. Do this – take a white paper towel, hold it under the dog and scratch his belly in different places. You’ll probably see some tiny black specks on the towel. Now don’t spill them, but takethe the towel and place it on a counter. Sprinkle water on the specks, and take a pen or other object and poke at the specks. If they turn red and look like blood, your dog has fleas. Fleas excrete blood, and they eat it from the dog.
A simple shampooing will not kill the fleas unless it is special flea killing shampoo. It is best and most thorough to take your dog to the vet and let them dip it to get ALL the fleas off him. While he is there, you are going to have to treat your house to get rid of the fleas. They do NOT stay on animals, but jump on and off to get some food, then lay eggs.
It’s disgusting, but it happens. Fleas can carry diseases that are serious, so don’t wait while they multiply. Call your vet today. Ask him also how to treat the house.

Are you tuning a ukelele? Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. There are some good flea and tick shampoos that will kill what’s on your dog and help prevent her from getting more. Also, some good oil-based remedies that you put between the dog’s shoulder blades. Frontline works real well. As for removing the tick, the cotton ball soaked with nail polish remover is the best idea I’ve heard yet.

Front line is the best to keep fleas and thick away. Flea collars are a waste of money and do not work.

If it is a flea, you can shampoo; if it is a tick, you must remove the tick, and be sure to get the whole tick including the head.

don’t listen to all of those postings that say to use dishsoap, because you can make the irritation in the skin that the dog has from the fleabites worse. use advantage. frontline is a good product for fleas/ticks. but advantage works faster and stops fleas from biting within 5 min. after being applied. the flea shampoo will work but to be truely affective you would have to use it every 2 weeks, and that can dry the dogs skin out. i’ve been a vet tech for 4 years and advantage is simply the best choice. and don’t use the suff you find at wal-mart they have been known to cause seizures in puppies, and work poorly against fleas.

I use Frontline on my dog and he doesnt have any fleas… i don´t think anti flea shampoos work..flea collars don´t work either and if your dog chews it, the doggy can get poisoned.
