My dog was bitten by a tick and I removed it although there is a bump on his head where the tick was.It looks like a scab, but feels like a bump underneath? Is this normal ???Went to the Vet and got antibiotics and a lyme disease shot.

The head may have been left in, or a little part of it. If the vet gave you meds, it should help if it get infected.

that might just be where it was bitten by it

Did you remove the entire tick? The head may still be left in, which can still be very harmful to the dog. I would call the vet and ask if he thought the head was still in there when he looked. If not, it may just be from the bite

you didn’t need antibiotics
it IS normal for a bump
if your dog were to get lyme disease,, treatment is only a course of tetracycline for about 10 bucks.

Yep. That’s normal. It’ll fall off soon, and there’ll be a little hairless spot for awhile.
You went to the vet, so that’s good. Your dog’ll be fine. Did they recommend tick preventatives like Frontline? I know use of such products can be controversial, but if you live in a place where ticks are common and you have an active, high-energy dog who requires outside time, I’d say they’re essential – whether or not they’ve had the Lyme’s vaccine.
I live in northern Wisconsin with a super high-energy shepherd/terrier mix, and the ticks are unbelievable in May and October; we even pulled one off our INSIDE cat last summer! I’m one of those people who swears by Frontline, and I treat my critters (cats, too) monthly from spring to late fall. (In fact, we’ve already started, because my mom (a vet tech) pulled a tick off my puppy while dog-sitting and traipsing through the woods a couple weeks ago!) Frontline is super easy to apply and it works!
Good luck!

It kinda sounds like when you pulled the tick off you my have left the head in. Its hard to get it all out sometimes. Since you have been to the vet and they checked it out and gave you medicine then t should be ok. I would watch the spot and if it got any bigger I would take your dog back to the vet.

It’s a bug bite- it’s reasonable to assume there may be a little bit of a bump where he got bitten. As long as you got as much of the tick as possible I would just keep an eye on it to make sure it isn’t getting worse (red, irritated, etc.)
As long as it seems to be getting better it’s probably ok. You also went to your vet you said and got the booster- if there was anything wrong they probably would have said anything.
I would keep an eye on it to make sure its not getting worse but its probably just a bite from the tick.

yes my dog used to get the same thing, sometimes they can be hyper sensitive to ticks and get an allergic reaction which results in a lump where the tick was, it should go down in a few days, if you think the head is still there the tick can grow back, try using meths to dope the tick before removing it- that way it will come off easier next time:) hope that helps!
