My cat’s bugs won’t go away?
I saw little bugs on her last week, so I assumed they were fleas. We tried powder, flea shampoo, and even a spot on product, all Hartz brand. We even out some stuff in the carpet and washed the blankets she sleeps on. But they’re still crawling around on her. I tried to grab one, and it ran back into her fur. The comb I have must be too wide, because I only get dirt when I comb her (that or the little things are too damn evasive). The only thing we haven’t tried is a flea collar. I can’t afford to take her to the vet right now. What should I do? I’m not even sure how she got bugs. She doesn’t go outside and is our only cat.
There are definitely multiple bugs. They look almost clear near the back end when you hold it up to the light and they are somewhat teardrop shaped.
My cat’s been in the house since I brought her home a year ago. The most outside she gets is sitting in the window.

It might not be fleas.
They could possibly be a random bug that means no harm to her.Maybe it’s a nat fly? And if you can’ take her to the vet,and you already tried all the Products,I’m not sure what else there is to do.

Flea collars are really ineffective for getting rid of fleas and actually iritate the cats skin. Fleas wait around for long time just waiting for something warm. You could have brought the flea in from the yard. You should try flea spray for the carpet and upholstery.

Make a solution of hot, soapy water (use dish detergent). Mix the solution in a container that you don’t mind contaminating. You are going to have to “hand pick” these little pests off your cat. Once you pick one off, immediately drop it down in soap solution. (should drown and die!) You’ve done the right thing, by washing your cat’s sleeping blankets. But, (if they are fleas), you house may, also be infested. You will have to vacuum, probably twice a day, for a week, at least. Wash ALL blankets, throw rugs in the house. (Also, pick up any clothes that may be laying on floors). Whether your cat is outdoors or indoors, humans can still be fleas into a home. It is so important, that you put your cat on a once-a-month flea treatment, for future preventative. Also, please do NOT use a flea collar. Waste of money! Hope I helped some! Good luck! :}

You can go to the vet without taking the cat, and ask for Advantage or Revolution. It’s a kind of drop you put on the back of the cat’s neck and it gets rid of fleas, ticks etc. There’s several vials in the package as you have to treat the adults, and then the eggs a couple of weeks later.
You’ll have to keep washing her bedding until you’ve treated her at least twice, and you may want to give her a bath before you treat her to get rid of at least some of the fleas. Flea shampoo is ok, but if you really want to get rid of them, use lemon sunlight dish washing liquid. They HATE lemon. And it doesn’t hurt your cat.
You need to keep on top of it, because fleas can over run your house quickly. I never knew what a flea was, until my cat brought them home. Nightmare!! But Advantage, and Revolution work great. Give them a try.

NO NOT HARTZ!!! Hartz brands and a lot of brands like them use permethrin as the main active ingredient. This is an insecticide that cats can’t metabolize properly. Some cats that are sensitive to it or have been over dosed may have these signs: muscle tremors, hyperexcitability, depression, ataxia, vomiting, seizures, anorexia, and death. Just like anything else you get what you pay for. Your going to have to spend more then what Hartz cost, but it doesn’t work anyways so your already waiting your money. I recommend Frontline or Advantage. Do you, or have you had any other animals in your house ever? Does she go out on a patio? Did you just move into a new place?
