My cat recently ran away and came back with fleas, how long should he be under quarantene?

We gave him the frontline flea medicine (between the shoulder blades) last wednesday. He hasn’t been scratching himself at all, just sometimes rolling around on the ground. I have 2 other cats in the house and don’t want them to get the fleas as well!!

well take alook at your cat. look through the fur, you can use a flea comb to see if any are alive, if not it is safe to reintroduce the cats.

Use some flea powder, will kill any eggs that are hanging around.

Most of the time quarantene periods are no longer than 10 -14 days. You should have bathed your kitty before you put the frontline.

Frontline will kill the fleas on your cat within 18 hours, but the problem may continue due to fleas or eggs that have gone into your carpet. It would probably be best to put Frontline on your other two cats this month to ensure the flea problem is eliminated.

First, I would get a good flea shampoo from the vet (NOT Hartz) and give him a bath. Usually it has to be left on for 5 minutes which is forever if your cat doesn’t like baths! But it’s important to give it time to kill the fleas. Check for any live fleas and comb them out. I can’t remember if you can give them a bath when you have Frontline on or not (you can Revolution). Wait a week and do it again just in case you didn’t get them all and any eggs have hatched. Then use Frontline as a preventative every month. Getting them in the house is a real pain and expensive.

Once you apply it, he doesn’t have them any more, you need no quarantine. Just make sure you re-apply it exactly 4 weeks later to kill any eggs (doubtful there are any).

You need to rid your cat of all the adult fleas before you reintroduce this cat to the others. Frontline doesn’t kill adult fleas in the way you think. It breaks the flea life-cycle. You really need to give your cat a flea dip. It’s the most effective and quick way to kill all of the adult fleas. The Frontline will take care of the rest. After the flea dip, you will be able to un-quarantine your cat immediately.
P.S. I highly recommend you have your vet do the flea dip. Bathing a cat is a dangerous task best left to the professionals with armor! Good luck!

You need to treat all of your cats regardless. Fleas can be carriers of tapeworm and heart worm which could kill your cats. You should apply a flea product to all your cats once a month. You should also immediatly wash there bedding and vacuum the entire house, including any furniture your cats are on. This will get rid of eggs and larvae which are very difficult to kill with the products we have.
