my 4 mo old boxer has had bumps on the top of her head for 2 wk. look like fire ant bites. clusters some scabs

The breeder explained them as mosquito bites or ant bites. That’s what they look like. Over the last two weeks there seem to be more and some are in clusters on the back of her neck. The original bumps are now hard and scabbed with what appears to be puss under the scab. She has developed a few single bumps on her side as well (less than 5). Can I use a skin cream made for humans to try and help her? I could use some recommendations. I have tried to pop them with my finger nails and a needle. I am not being very aggressive at it but not much comes out of them.

Popping the lesions with your fingernails and a needles is definitely not the best plan. If she has had a problem for two weeks and it seems to be spreading, a veterinary visit is a good idea. It certainly doesn’t sound like mosquito bites, and even fire ant bites should have cleared up by now. It could be puppy impetigo, or pyoderma, a bacterial skin infection that may require oral antibiotics. Meanwhile, keep the areas clean, and a little Neosporin or other topical human antibiotic cream might not help, but it won’t hurt. Hope she’s feeling better soon.
