Itchy bumps on my arm–could they be fleas?
I just adopted a stray cat, and though she stayed at my house in a carrier for one night without flea treatment, she was treated with Advantage the next day at the vet. Shortly after getting her, I noticed a bite on my ankle, so I thoroughly powdered my apartment with insecticide and insect growth inhibitor, and I’ve been vacuuming floors and furniture every day since. But I still get occasional tiny bumps that feel like bites on my arms and wrists about once a day, usually in clusters of two or three. They go away after twenty minutes to two hours. They look far too small to be flea bites, but I can’t think of what else they might be! Any suggestions?

You COULD be allergic to cats? It is possible. If you pet the cat, it is reasonable to think that you would get the rash bumps on your arms and wrists.

cats hardly get fleas but if you give the cat a bath with dish detergent than then fleas will be gone for atleast a week or 2

Tough one. Usually flea bites stick to the ankles or an area where they have been trapped under your clothing.
Could there be a chance you are having a reaction to all of the chemicals or even the cat?
I would give it a day or so and if it continues – call your physician.
PS: Are you the only one in the house this is happening to?

Sounds like they could be flea bites. Flea treatments can sometimes take a while to work, and you should also get some spray for your house, this will break the life cycle of the flea and stop any eggs from hatching DO NOT bath your cat in detergent as one daft poster suggested.

One of my co-workers came back from a vacation in Mexico covered in flea bites. They’re very tiny red dots, not puffed up like mosquito bites, they stay very small. She had them on her face, neck and arms and the red spots stayed for 4 days.
If you have larger bumps,I’d suspect an allergic reaction to spider bites, or to something else.
Take a comb with very close tines and comb the cat. If you find live fleas, then yes it may be flea bites on you, but the cat has been dosed already so fleas on the cat will die shortly, and any in the environment that jump on her will die too, as will those you vacuum up.
