Is this a safe toy idea for my cat?
My cat loved chasing the mouse we had in the house last month but mice carry disease, fleas and other parasites so I had no choice but to trap and kill the rodent. I was at Petsmart yesterday and seen a hamster ball in a pretty purple color. My idea is to purchase a 5 dollar hamster and at times let the hamster run around the house in the ball. This gives my cat a chance to chase a moving ball and live rodent without the worries of disease. Since the hamster is only 5 bucks it is one of the cheapest cat toys I’ve purchased thus far, and can easily be replaced if it should die. Is there any hidden dangers to my cat playing with a hamster in a ball that I’ve overlooked?
My cat is an indoor only kitty.

i dunno maybe you should try a metal ball and cover it in thorns and rat poison, cats love that stuff

are you nuts? that’s against all humanitarian values! imagine how a poor hamster would feel!!!
i bet you wouldn’t want to put your cat in a ball, so a dog can play with it, without eating your cat!
there is a wide variety of toys for cats, you can buy an electric mouse on batteries or even a stupid pen-laser – cat will chase the laser, believe me

I think you should be considering the possibility that you would end up being charged with animal cruelty… Not to mention of course that hamsters do have feelings. It would quite likely die of fright.
It is possible to get hold of toys that move electronically. Or getting a toy with a fur texture would be another idea. One thing that might REALLY work is to get your cat a treat ball. You put bits of food inside that fall out as the cat rolls it around for the full hunt and eat effect.

why don’t you try getting into a big ball and let a car chase you around and bang into your ball. see how long you live!!!!… that is so cruel and very strange… even if you would put a wild mouse in the ball… its still cruel.!!!
get a life!!

That is absolutely cruel.
There are robotic mice you can buy for your cat to chase around–my cat had a lot of fun with one of those.
