I realy need help. Please take your time to read this. Im scared and i need your help!?
Our cats(and most likely our dog too) have fleas. I knew they did since they were itching alot. My one cat has a big spot with no fur on his stomach. I knew they were fleas as i stated. We just got back from vacation and my mom told me to go open my windows to let cool air in. So i walked up into my bedroom and tried to open my window. I felt a tickling feeling on my legs. That’s normal for me because with cats there is always fur flying around. So I looked down and there i saw a bunch of black bugs on my legs. If that happened to my mom shed think they were gnats because she denied the whole flea issue before vacation. So i told my sister and she said the SAME THING happened to her TOO. so i told my mom and my grandmom. my grandmom convinced my mom to bomb the house. my mom said she will, but after reading other people questions its making my scared because they say that you have to get under EVERYTHING! and i mean everything. is that true? also, i told my mom there is a powder for your carpet. she says she will get all of that stuff and for my not to worry about it. but im scared because i feel as though im being eaten ALIVE! i have bite all over my feet and near my ankles. and one on my hand. i bet soon it will be my face because i have to sleep on the floor due to heat contortions upstairs. i just wanna know if the flea powder and bomb works. i hope you guys help me. please please give me a good answer. i suggest people with experience please. im only 13 so you know how us kids OVERREACT. but im not. im to the point i wanna move out forever and live with my grandmom.

OMG you should not be living in those conditions that is not healthy for you or your pets. If I were you I would go live with your Grand mom till it gets taken care of.

I think your best solution is to call a vet office. Explain the situation and they will tell you how to proceed. They can also give you the best info on the effectiveness of the products. There are new products all the time so they are definately the ones on the forefront with the real answers.

The bombs will work just make sure that your animals are given baths and flea treatments or else they will come back. We had a major flea outbreak in our apartment building where they had to bomb all the apartments. We gave our cats baths and put on flea treatment and no more problems. Just make sure you treat your animals for fleas at the same time that you bomb otherwise the fleas will come back.

I never had a serious bug infestation, but I truly dont believe your overreacting. I’m dealing with a deadly virus in my room that is easily spreadable to cats. I’m so scared that I may accidently give it to her in some way, I’m afraid to do anything in my house. What you can do is find a way to convince your mom or grandmom to call bug control, in this case you really cant think of money being an option because its so serious. It WILL get WORSE if you let it continue. And whats worse, is that your pets are truly getting sick and unhealthy by this. They will need to see a vet and get good medicine. See if they can stay at your grandmoms house until your house is clean because they wont heal no matter how much medicine they have if they still have fleas surrounding them.
1) Take care of your cats with a vet, and get them out of the house.
2) Concince your mom that you NEED bug control immediately. If you guys go to live somewhere else ask your vet ways to clean your clothes and whatever else it is that you will take. Bugs can live on your clothes and just be transferred to the next place you stay. And look of things that people use for lice. I know its not the same bug, but a friend of mine had fleas in her house, and she used mayonase (not sure I can spell that) on her hair to suffocate the bugs, because showers often to not get rid of them. I’m not sure if it really helps but she felt better after using it.
This sounds like a very serious issue and needs to be adressed quickly.
I hope this helps a bit
Go ahead and email if you need any help (well after you get the vet of course haha)

well-don’t move out-but really, you might want to go to grandma’s for a few nights–just strip before you enter her house or you will bring “friends” with you!
When I was about 13 we went thru this–yes-the flea stuff works! you are just going to have to be patient because they’ve had all that time to dig in—you have to treat the house and the animals. and will probably have to repeat the process…
and don’t worry-you will be itchy for awhile but i’ve never heard anyone dying from flea bites.
have you got a tent? maybe sleep outside in the tent…..?

Wow, this is quite funny, because I had this happen to me about two weeks ago. But here is what I did(and it worked):
1. vacuum all carpet with fleas infestation.
2. use a flea bomb(no really, that’s what they are called, and they really do work) keep pets out of the treated areas until they are flea-free. THIS IS CRITICAL IF YOU WANT TO GET Rid of them!!
For your pets, use frontline or some other flea medicine. You can also take them to the vet to give them a flea bath.
Keep up weekly inspections and bomb it as soon as you find fleas. Hope you will be flea-free soon, I totally understand how painful it is to live in a house full of fleas, my legs are all bitten up too.
Good Luck, and really, the flea bomb thing works wonders!!

First of all, have your mom or grandma or another adult read this or have them help you with these instructions.
Get all of the animals in the house bathed and treated with Frontline, Advantage or Revolution. It couldn’t hurt to have the vet deworm them either, since fleas carry worms and parasites.
Next, have a HUGE laundry-day event by washing ALL bedding, loose fabrics, curtains, pet beds, pet toys/collars and and whatever else will go in the washing machine. Put a flea collar in your vacuum bag and vacuum the house top to bottom. Shampoo the rugs.
After all that is done, get the animals out of the house and flea bomb. Follow the instructions to a T. It’s all perfectly safe unless you don’t follow the directions.
Lastly, you’re not overreacting. Excessive fleas like that are a BIG DEAL and could be a health hazard if not taken care of quickly.
I’m so sorry that you have to live in fleas for the time being. My inlaws also have a very serious flea problem and being there is like torture because the fleas are always biting. I feel sorry for their animals.
Best of luck.

What everyone has failed to mention is that all people and animals have to be out of the house, take your animals to a groomer to have them bathed then go home, one person only goes into the house and opens all the windows so the house can air out, sets off the bombs, maybe one in each room. That person then gets out of the house and you all go somewhere for the day. If you tell the groomer what is going on they should let you keep the pets there a little longer as long as it is not overnight. You and your pets can go back as soon as the fumes from the bombs are gone.

Poor you! Bad news…yes fleas get under and into everything. I used to work in a pet store and this is what we would recommend to people. First thing is get a good flea shampoo and get your mom to help you bathe all your pets (if one has fleas, then they all do), then after you do that dust them with flea powder. Now while you guys are doing this, have someone vacuum all the carpets as this is where the little devils like to hide. You may need to do this a few times to have success because there are always some who manage to hide away.
You may also want to consider getting some of the products offered at the vet’s that you give to your pet to take. I think there are pills and drops and what they do is kill the fleas when they bite the animal. This is a good idea but keep in mind that fleas need a blood source to survive and if they don’t bite your pets because of the flea baths etc, they will bite humans to get it. Also keep in mind that you can’t squash them like regular bugs so if you do catch them, you need to roll them between your thumb and finger to kill them. We had them at our house once and my daughter became an expert at this because they used to bite her a lot. Good luck honey and if it makes you feel better to go to your grandmom’s then maybe you should, until they’re gone. I’m sure your mom will understand.

Do the flea bomb [you and your pets cant be inside at the time] and also buy frontline [or something similar, but DONT go for an off-brand or no-name cheapie, they dont work!]. Fleas are evil buggers. I’d say give them baths, but I know how cats are… I have them, and they had fleas too because of my mom’s dog. Luckily, the cats and I dont live there anymore, and the fleas were gone almost immediately.
