I have hundreds of house flies in my house and thousands outside. Advice on ridding them?

My house is immaculate but you open the door and 20 fly in. They do this every year about this time. It is a sign it may get below 70 tonight lol. I have the clear bags with water and a penny in it, fly motel, fly strips, etc but they have evolved to know what those are. I moved all the horses away from the house to our temporary barn, but still…thousands of them ugh.

Aw, a fellow horse person. We get lots of flies too – just open/close doors quickly and have fly swatters handy. I can’t tell you how many times my hair has gotten stuck in fly strips, lol, EW!

Leave out a dish of honey. They will get stuck and die. Also invest in insect repellant plants, like marigold flowers. My grandmother used to pay us grandkids a penny for every fly we killed.

Get a few hornet/fly traps for outside, you put a sugar/water solution with red dye in it and you will need to empty it every day. It keeps the bugs down a lot on our farm. For those that manage to make it into the house I use a shop vac and a fly swatter. I’m a big fan of the shop vac when we have an attack of house flies. They all gather at the window and I just suck them up. Nice, easy and no mess.

With horses, good luck. Try and keep doors closed as much as possible and use your screens in windows and doors. Also, the horses have to be like 3 acres away to keep the flies from the house.

The clear bag traps that are baited with the stuff that smells like death actually work to draw the flies to the bags, and away from your house. We use them in the summer, and they’re pretty effective. They stink, but they’re effective.

They have insect repellent that you can spray around the outside of your house, along your windows, and doors that help keep the bugs away including flies.
Doesn’t your dog or cat eat them? We didn’t have too big of an issue with flies this year. Between our dog and cat they didn’t stand a chance.
