I have a question about fleas and newborn kittens?

OK…I have a momma cat and she has kittens about a week old. The fleas are getting way out of control. I also have other cats and two puppies. I want to know how to treat the fleas without harming the kittens. If I treat my yard (say with sevin dust) can it be brought back in to the kittens on the momma cat? And if so would it harm them? What is the best thing to use for the yard? For the grown cats? For the puppies? The nursing Mom? And the kittens? That’s alot of questions, but if anyone has some good advice, I’d appreciate it. THANKS!

with baby kittens, your safest bet is to use no chemicals on the kittens or the mom. get a flea comb and manually remove the fleas

chemicals to treat the yard isn’t a good idea when you have pets. Try using garlic powder around the perimeter of your house and then go to the vet and get some pills that kill the eggs as well as the adult fleas. You might need to call an exterminator to spray your house or you will be bitten to death along with all your animals. Once fleas get out of control its hard to get them all without the proper medication. Only the ones from the vet work, the rest is a waste of money..

Yes, your animals will track the Sevin into the house, and the mom cat will take it to the kittens. You need to flea-treat each animal in the house with a safe and effective flea treatment like Frontline. The momma cat can be given the frontline too – it’s safe for nursing moms. None of the other over the counter flea medications (Hartz, Zodiac, Sergent) are safe for her. Treating mom for fleas will protect the kittens as well. Wash the bedding daily in the hottest water you have – this will kill the fleas and eggs in the bedding.
Momma should be kept indoors! She can – and will – come back into heat even while nursing her kittens, and will get pregnant again. She must be kept indoors until she’s spayed, or it won’t be healthy for momma,. her current litter, nor the one she’ll be getting pregnant with. There is only so much nutrition to go around, and they’ll all get shortchanged.
