I have a co-worker whose dog attacked her husband’s hand. They decided to shot it in the head?
According to KY laws, it is illegal to kill an animal…unless in defense. I might be wrong but in defense means in the heat of the moment…not 8 hours later. What really upsets me is that the human society for that county will come pick up the dog and humanly put it down…AT NO COST OR STRIKE AGAINST THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I told her this and she is still gonig to shot the dog in the head. I can not find the number to call the animal control and am at alost. If this dog was attacking their child right now…and the only way to get the dog off is to shot it fine. But if it bites your hand, showing signs of aggression is not in defense 8 hours later. I really just do not understand how ANY human can look a family pet in the eyes and then put a slug in its forehead.

Call the police, shooting a dog is a crime. They can take the dog away if they feel the people are serious about killing it.

Shooting is probably the quicker method. Why give it to the Humane Society where it has the opportunity to do it to someone else, and possibly ruin the chances of other dogs getting adopted?

They are extremely cruel and I would turn them in but remember they have a gun. Can you some evidence on this since they may deny it to the authorities. There’s no telling what he was trying to do to the dog when he was bitten. They’ll just do it again if not stopped. Sorry you have to work with such cruel human beings.

Not defending your coworker, but some people just don’t like to get the government involved. And I’m not sure the euthansia provided by the humane society is any less or more painful to the dog than being shot. That being said, you are probably right that it is illegal.

I would contact the police, animal control, or both and report this. Animal abuse is a crime, and the abusers need to be prosecuted for it. If you can’t find the number for Animal Control, you can call information, and they will give it to you. There is no excuse for any kind of animal abuse. There is no need for these people to shoot the dog, no matter what it has done. There are many other way’s to take care of the problem. without harming the animal. When you report them, you can also tell them, you don’t want the abusers, to find out you reported them, because they do have a gun.

I knew of an idiot that did that once, only to not have the dog die, and coming running down with half it’s head blown off! What a lovely sight it was for his children to see(NOT)! Call the police, and they can get you in touch with the right person to take the dog.

I can’t believe they are willing to shoot the dog themselves. When I was in high school my mom was attacked by our neighbor’s dog while walking in our back yard. My dad who is an avid gun carrier pulled out his handgun and was going to shoot the dog, but didn’t because he remembered that they look at the dog’s brain to see if it has rabies. Surprisingly the dog after attacking my mom just sat there while my dad had the gun pointed at him. Animal control came & they had the dog destroyed at the owners request. Thankfully the dog didn’t have rabies, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

i am not sure about your state but in the state i live in it is legal to put your own dog down if it is a threat to someone it doesn’t matter if the deed was just done or it was done the day before,as long as it is done quickly and humanely so the dog does not suffer,as far as i am concerned, though i would never shoot a dog i don’t have the heart for it,a gun shot to the head is a lot quicker and a whole lot more humane than so called humane euthanizing,i worked at a kill shelter once,i once watched a poor pit bull fight valiantly for his life because the workers could not get near him,he was vicious so they darted him with the euthanasia, the dose wasn’t enough,he bit and flopped and clawed and in the process, broke off teeth on the kennel wire, and broke his front leg so the bone was sticking out before they could get more into him, please tell me how this is more humane than a quick gun shot to the head?? it made me so sick to my stomach i quit and i will never forget the image of that poor dog suffering, you can all preach about humane euthanization but until you know what goes on behind closed doors don’t condem someone for doing what they think is right you might want to check out this site i just read it is about companion animals who have been “humanely euthanized” being processed into our pet’s food, yes that is right they use animals from Vet offices and shelters to feed our Cats and dogs, yummy one more reason why i think maybe a quick bullet to the head would be a better way to go,we are literally feeding our pets euthanazia drugs,no wonder it took the pitbull so long to die he probably had an immunity to the drug

If they’ve had the dog for a while then they need to figure out why it bit him. And if I knew where they lived I’d go get the dog and then call the police. It wouldn’t have bitten for no reason. It had to have been hurt, scared, something. Please let me know if they shoot it so I can know that there’s one more dirt bag to add to my list.

This only goes to prove the saying that there’s no such thing as a bad dog, only a bad owner. These are clearly dreadful people, that’s probably why the dog attacked in the first place. Call the police and report it, it may not change anything but at least you’ll have done what you can. One small mercy is if they kill the dog it won’t have to suffer them as owners anymore. However if you report this, it might prevent them getting another dog which will be a blessing.
The police may have the humane society’s phone number or you might be able to look it up on the internet.
Good luck.

The dog probably does not deserve to be put down. Most dog bites are owner caused, in one way or another. However, I don’t see a difference in shooting it in the head, or having it put down? Either way, it is going to die a fast and mostly painless death. I couldn’t personally do it, but for someone who can, as long as the dog doesn’t suffer, I don’t see a problem.
If you call animal control, and they take the dog away, it will most likely be put down anyway, since it has a bite history.
On that note, don’t shoot a dog that is currently attacking someone either. You are liable to miss, and shoot the person being attacked. And the law may cover shooting the dog after the fact as well, if they feel that this could be a reoccuring problem. Not sure there is much you can do. Sorry.
