The types of retail stores I see lots of African stuff (artwork, pottery, statues, anything decorative) is Marshalls, TJ Max, and the Burlington Coat Factory. You could try to see if the buyers would be interested in purchasing something like that. I think they buy overstock or slightly imperfect things but it’s worth a try.
Directions to Burlington Coat Factory’s corporate offices:

Sorry I can’t quickly find vendor/buyer contact information for Burlington Coat Factory.
Here’s a contact for becoming a vendor for Marshalls:

Here’s a link with interesting information on what T J Maxx looks for in a vendor:

T J Maxx and Marshalls are owned by the same company so both would be interested in relationships with vendors for the same reasons. Both have different buying departments though so you need to track down individual contact names and numbers.
I hope this helps. Have a fun and successful trip to the US. Good luck!

This should be very informative regarding customs and importing.
http://www.cbp.gov/linkhandler/cgov/toolbox/publications/trade/iius.ctt/iius.doc
If that link doesn’t work go here:
http://www.customs.gov/xp/cgov/import/infrequent_importer_info/
Then click on “Importing into the Unites States”.
