How to treat home for fleas?
We took in an abandoned kitten and as a result are now suffering from a flea infestation. The worst part is that our 2 year old son is the one who is getting bitten. I got some powder to put on the carpet and the cats have Frontline Plus on them that should control the fleas once I treat the carpets. I just don’t know how to keep my son off of the carpets for 24 hours, which is what the powder suggests. We have carpet in our two bedrooms, one of which is full of all of his toys. Should I even do the powder or call an exterminator? Do I need to do anything to the couches? I am so frustrated that my little guy has flea bites on his legs
Any help is appreciated.

That powder works but it does take 24 hours and not a minute less. Use as much as it says, which is a pretty heavy application. And keeping your child out of it is very important. Can you go stay overnight with friends? Foot the bill for a cookout & make it fun. Or rent a motel room and take a vacation this weekend? (An exterminator is going to cost you more & put even more toxic stuff down, unnecessarily.) Put the toys in the kitchen or laundry room or outdoors.
Also helps to vacuum carpet & rugs every day or more. And spray something outdoors around the perimeter of the house.
I sympathize. We have 3 indoor/outdoor animals and just went through this. I mean, I was combing 40 fleas off my 16 year old cat, 3x daily for about 4 days. It took 2 weeks to get rid of all the fleas and we still find one now and then. Next spring we’re going to nip it in the bud!
