How to stop my cat from scratching her neck ?
I have a new pet. A female cat that I got from the Humane Society. I have had her for a week, today. Anyway, she is all the time, scratching around her neck. She did this, before I even put any collar on her; with either collar that I have; and before & after I put on her flea collar. I don’t want her to make herself raw, by scratching all the time at her neck. I do not use anything in that area.. wipes, powder, the brush, etc.. so why does she always scratch there ?. PLEASE… no kidders reply, and no wise cracks, or bad language. I am looking for a serious answer or suggestion, from cat owners who know what they’re talking about.

Flea collars do not work. They only repel the fleas around the neck area, they will just move around it. Some cats have even had reactions to the collar. It could be a number of things causing her to scratch so much, I would get her checked out by a vet to be sure. It could be caused my fleas, it could be allergies or something else could be going on that needs to be tested for.

it is either fleas, ticks, or dry skin. if it is fleas you dint want them to get all over your house like they did to my friends house. you want to ask a local pet store for some flea control for your cat or if you have a kitten, ask for the kind for the kitten. if it is ticks, call your vet ASAP!!!! they carry disease that can possibly kill. they will give you a tick treatment. if it dry skin, you still want to call your vet when you have the time to. dry skin is not a big deal, but is very itchy for your cat/kitten.
hoped i helped!!! hope your cat gets better soon!!!

First of all I would get those plastic things that go on cats nails. She can still scratch but she can’t dig. They sell them online. Take her to the vet to as soon as you can. To see if it is fleas or what ever, you don’t want that stuff to spread. Its good for her to get a check up anyway so you can be sure shes healthy other than the scratching. If its an allergy get some high quality food. Get the high quality food anyway. The food is crap that they sell at the grocery store. Then next it can be a nervous habit. That will take love and patience.
Hope this helps, and kudos for getting her at the Humane Society.

Common place for fleas and flea collars don’t work. At all. Stop by a vet and get some Frontline, it’s over the counter. Revolution also works well. You may want to ask if you can just buy one dose if money’s an issue, the stuff is expensive but it works great. If she’s still scratching a few days after you’ve applied it, get her checked out.

1, flea collars dont really work unfortunately. they suck… & thats probably whats irritating her neck. i cant say why shes doing it, but id keep all collars off her, especially flea collars. i have a cat that does the same, but its only when i have a collar on her.
