How to stay away from ticks?

We’re going to a pond this weekend where the trees are now fully in because in spring and it’s getting warmer outside and i’m pretty scared about ticks. My uncle wants to bring my dog but i’m afraid a tick will get on her, he says “Ticks are only found in pine trees” Is that statement true? I live in CT and we have a lot of ticks around here. I’m afraid myself of getting any of those diseases that ticks can carry and i’m worried about my dog. Should we go to the pond? If we decide to go, how can we prepare to make sure no ticks get on us and, should i bring my dog?

Put some Frontline on the dog before you go.
I have had plenty of ticks on me in riding horses out on the trails. It does gross you out, but it really is not a big deal.

Just get her a flea/tick collor, we live in a ranch and use them on our dogs all the time and it has worked perfectly.

Ticks are in all shrubs and brush. I live in CA and they are in all sorts of brush. Use Frontline Plus on your dog ahead of time and that will prevent ticks from embedding.

If your dog is really important to you, bring her but if it will put her in danger, and you are ok with leaving her at home, that is cool too. Ticks are easy to remove and if you stay away from trees and shrubs, forests etc and check your dog throrougly when you get home you should be okay.
I’v had tons of ticks from when I go to the mountains and they dont hurt to get out at all, so dont worry about your dog being in pain, just make sure you remove and kill the tick asap!

Frontline works great. Call you vet for a prescription, altho you may have to take your dog in for some bloodwork.
BTW, your Uncle has NO idea what he’s talking about.

Ticks are everywhere. However, that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying nature. For your dog, use a dose of Frontline to stop ticks, and for you, wear long pants and put the elastic of your socks on the OUTSIDE of your pants, thereby keeping ticks from crawling up your legs. Oh, and don’t worry about getting a tick, they’re no big deal.
