How to rid fleas in an apartment?
I live in a 3 bedroom apartment with 2 dogs and a cat. We live in a complex and each building has 8 apartments. We live on one of the first floor. We have a major flea infestation and can’t seem to get rid of them. On the animals we have tried: flea baths, the stuff you put on their neck, flea collars, garlic in the food, lemon and lime juice in the water, flea spray. On the house we have tried: flea powder on the carpets, spray around the doors, spray on the beds, and even a small bomb. We have new bombs to set off in the house and we want to take the animals to get a flea dip while we do this, but we think that the fleas will come back because they our outside the apartment. We aren’t allowed to do anything to the outside because the complex sprays, but the spray doesn’t include anything for fleas. The apartment manager has 2 dogs and lives across from us. I’m sure she has a flea problem too.

You have to move. If the fleas are from outside, why doesn’t the apartment manager take care of it?

Wow it sounds like you have done everything possible. The flea bombs should have done the trick for your apt. but it sounds like you have an outside problem and the only thing you can do is move to completely rid yourself and your animals of the problem. If I can add one more remedy to your list I have heard that lavender is a natural flea deterrent and I have filled my pets beds with hands full of the flower buds I grew ( you can purchase at a flower shop or natural food store) but I don’t have the problem you seem to be facing. Frontline and flea collars all around.

Bomb the house while empty and don’t worry about a flea bath. Just get a Cap Star from your vet. It kills the fleas in no time and it’s pretty cheap, (5-7$). Then bathe your dogs after this so they are clean, but don’t let your dogs in the house until after at least an hour. Vacuum your carpets and clean all the dead fleas away. Then, just get some REAL flea meds, (advantix, advantage, comfortis, etc.) from your vet. That other stuff you’ve been using really doesn’t work. It’s more expensive to buy REAL flea medication, but at least you and your dogs will be comfortable and healthy. After that, you should set up an appointment to have them checked for heart worms. They most likely have it now, with the amount of fleas around, since all they have to do is swallow one flea to get it.
NOTE: until you get your pets are permanently on prescription flea medication, the fleas in your home will never fully go away. This is b/c even after you bomb the apartment, your dogs keep bringing in new fleas from outside. Fleas jump on your dogs all throughout the day and everyday, which is why you have to give them real flea medication that works. That other stuff may be more likely to harm your dogs than anything else. Flea collars NEVER work. ALL they do is keep fleas away from the collar themselves!? The stuff you put on their neck is not the best stuff around but it’s ok, (sometimes you have to apply it every 3 weeks instead of every 4 weeks to keep up with it and you can’t bathe your dogs for at least 2 days after you give it to them). Do your dogs have very long hair? If so the meds might be in their hair rather than on their skin. Flea baths aren’t very good either and they have poisons that get into the pets blood stream. Try something called COMFORTIS!! It’s a pill that works very well!!

Indorex is pretty good. Spray EVERYTHING that’s fabric, close all windows (make sure everyones out while you do this) leave for about 4 hours then air out the place.

here’s a cheap remedy i used for years still use it every once in awhile to see if there’s any fleas in the house…get you a small lamp with a shade on it..put it on the floor at night where dogs can’t get to it..put some shallow lids around it with soapy water in them..leave it down all night the fleas will jump in the soapy water and drowned..the light attracts the fleas so they go to it..do this every night till you see no fleas in the water..
