In the past I had this problem also. I used some gasoline and let it soak in and then lit it on fire. The gas drives them from their nest and then they burn up. Just don’t burn yourself.

Have you tried boiling water? do you know where the nest is? if you know where the nest is poor boiling hot water on it. If you don’t want them going past a certain point put flour down, they can’t get past it.

borax. Boric acid. can be found in the laudry aisle as a laudry booster. Most say to mix with powdered suger, but if your cat is near, just sprinkle it on the walk. It’s not a poison, but a mild acid that will eat the ants shell away, but is safe enough for people and animals to be around. I use it by my walk. But it does seem to brown the grass, so keep it to areas that you don’t worry will kill plants.

ants are tough….i used cloves once, whole cloves and they stopped coming..well, i, like you was at me wits end to stop them, ’cause i’d clean em up and they were back…over and over, so finally someone suggested whole cloves, i put em down and forgot about it…thinking tiringly that i’ll just have to clean em up again tomorrow, but, i forgot to look for them going on about my business…and the just never showed up again. so the cloves may work for you.

Most important in dealing with ants in the home is finding the nest if possible. Queens lay eggs constantly, providing a steady supply of fresh ants. Getting rid of the nest and the queen should solve your problem. To locate a nest, place a dab of jelly or peanut butter out where ants have been seen. Watch the ants, (most are more active at night) and see where they go. It’s likely that they are leaving the house for a nest outdoors. Treat the perimeter of the house to keep them out or treat the nest itself. The area along the foundation is relatively protected from the elements and a good place for ants to nest.
If your problem is carpenter ants, control is a little different. Carpenter or wood-boring ants will be detected by the presence of frass. Frass is a deposit of sawdust and other tiny debris left near the nest. Carpenter ants prefer moist wood (which may also indicate a moisture problem). They do not respond well to baits. Find the nest and apply the appropriate insecticide.

Have u tried Johnson & johnson baby powder? That works wonderful for me. Smoothers them ants and runs them off or kills them. Good luck
(Try a jar with 1/2 beer in it to kills the wasps and bees.)

Ant-Rid is good, though I usually use it indoors. It’s a sweet sticky fluid sold in little bottles, you just put it in an old bottle top & the ants drink it & take it back to the nest, where it kills the rest.
An old fashioned method my mother used to use was to boil a kettle of water & pour it immediately over the path/steps (remove the cat first!). I suppose this either burns, drowns or floods out the ants. Good luck.

Chalk. White blackboard chalk. Ants won’t cross a chalk line.
