How much should it cost for a/c repair men to fix simple problem?

The outside unit has a hose with some kind of spring inside it, and they said it keeps getting clogged with ants. It’s happened twice before and it took them 2 minutes to fix. Landlord paid those times. He won’t pay again because it’s ants and “pest control is my responsibility.”
Or do you know how I can fix it myself?

An AC hose with a spring inside it? Sounds fishy to me. If it were clogged with ants, there should be a huge pile of dead ants – have you seen them? I’ve known repair techs to rely on the owner’s ignorance of their systems to give them a snow job on the repairs needed. I’ve seen these types on TV repair tech scams. They charge for work not done or not needed.
Pests INSIDE the home are the renter’s responsibility. Pests OUTSIDE the home are the landlord’s responsibility.
Even though it is a simple problem, you have to pay for the tech’s time from the time he starts his travel to your job site until he finishes the job. That can be a minimum of 1 hr travel and fix time. Parts are extra.

he’ll charge around 65.00 just for the call and probable charges a minimum of one hour labor so this simple fix could cost 110 to 120 bucks.

if it’s an ‘air conditioning unit’ outside then the ‘ants’ are attracted to the static electricity ['cause they're daft and don't know any different] so just add an ‘earth’ a bit of wire mess connected to the unit and into the ground. Acts like a force field and may confuse them enough to make them think twice.
It may even be the vibration of the thing that attracts them, or make sure there’s a gap between the pipe and the ground so the ants can’t climb up.
