How do you rid your home of flies when there is a nearby source for breeding not in your control?

I just bought a wonderful new house, but it is located next to an apartment building with an old trash dumpster that is right over my fence! In the summertime (in the south) the flies are awful! They breed there in the dumpster, and fly over and into the house when the door is open. I know shutting the backdoor would end many of my woes, but I like the backdoor open for playtime when the weather is nice! How do I rid these pests at the source without causing health issues for those around? Or just keep them out of my house for their visits?

just go buy those bug trappers and put them all around your place. They’ll go there before they go inside your house. But you’ll have to replace it often.

they have a fly trap that is sold in an animal feed store that you can hang nere by the fence and 90% of the flys will go to that and it will hold up to 15000 flys there not that costly so get a couple so you have one as a back up .

Buy fly traps and locate them on that side of the property. This will work and catch flies but it may not give you the results you are looking for.
The best thing, would be to contact the health department and make a com plaint. Eventhough, it is a dumpster, it should be clean.
You have the right to enjoy your yard.

I saw this done and it works great.
Take a clear glass of water about 2/3 full and a little dish soap. Put something over the top and shake it up a little so that it makes bubbles. Then take the uncovered glass and and cover the fly on the ceiling (lightly touch the top of glass to the ceiling)and it drops/flies into the solution immediately. Unfortunately it only works for flies on the ceiling. Someone tall enough can basically kill one after the other using that method.
I dont have a problem with flies at all because my grandma when I was little would put ziplock bags full of water over the OUTSIDE of the doorway on top and you have to have a light on..either next to it outside or one on inside and flies get all crazy and cant pass under it because of the light…doesn’t work for bees though
