How do I communicate with ATC in FS2004?

I have been flying with FS2004 just since this past Christmas. I would like to know how to communicate with Air Traffic Control; as of now I just land wherever I feel like! Would be a nice challenge to be instructed where to land and how far to climb.

press the ~ button, next the the number 1. It brings up the atc window which has prompts from there.

Are you talking about online, or single player?
Online in FSX , the key is capslock.
check under settings and key settings…..there will probably be a key that you hold down while you talk.
Also, make sure you are on the same frequency as tower….if youre not sure what freq it is, there should be another key (or combo of keys) that lets you talk to everyone, regardless of location.
[In FSX holding caps lock while talking lets you talk to people on your frequency, shift+capslock lets you talk to everyone]

i have been using FS 2004 for a couple of years now, to communicate with air traffic control hit the `/~ key next to the 1 key and above the tab key. a list of prompts will come up and depending on if you are flying an IFR (instrument) or VFR (visual) it might say something like “1 – select new IFR destination” or “1- Nearest Airport List”
PS. to bravestdawg101 this question is about FS 2004 not FSX…
me. i use FS 2004 as well

Although you have several good answers, let me remind you that this is a Microsoft program with an excellent help menu, and F-1 will get you the help menu that would have answered your question.
