After 3 disasterous living situations, I was hoping this new one would be peaceful. I am on limited income and cannot afford to keep moving. I am renting an apartment with another couple my age (22). The guy works nights and sleeps most of the day. The girlfriend does not work and stays in her room 99.9% of the time. She doesn’t usually answer the door when I knock. Or take out the trash or do any routine cleaning. The guy and I split the rent. He told us she is shy. However My boyfriend and I are finding it increasingly odd how she avoids any face-to-face interaction whatsoever.

The last month or so we are finding rude and condescending notes (obviously from her even though they aren’t signed by anyone )taped up around the house. Usually about the internet not working because the cable often loses connection in my room. Then its been about kitchen organization. I understand if she is a neat freak, however when I first moved in, the place was a disaster. I paid the first full month without living there because the guy living in the room before me had cats with fleas and I couldn’t spend more than 20 minutes in the place without getting 20+ bites. No kidding. After 2 exterminators and countless carpet bombs, I finally got rid of the fleas and was able to move in. I steam cleaned all the carpets, scraped a nasty bathroom clean, scraped crud an inch thick off the stove, and got the sink to drain. Obviously they are willing to live in disgusting conditions.

Even so, I have been very careful leaving no evidence of my activites in the community rooms. Yet another note has popped up this morning, now complaining about my kittens. Who are only let out of my room when I am awake and are there to watch them. The note said they “must’ve just knocked over and bent an expensive lamp” ” and they are tired of cleaning up their messes. This is bullshit to me, as the only lamp they ever knocked over was mine in my room, and the only mess they ever made was knocking some potted plant dirt on the ground – which i then vaccuumed. I checked all the lamps and nothing was out of place or bent. I would understand if the complaint was legitimate, but it is completely false! I usually write back something cooperative, but this is getting ridiculous and I don’t want to be a doormat.

So I called the guy to arrange a resident meeting so we can open a dialouge. He pretty much blew me off, but will get back to me when he can find a time…I am trying to control my temper but I rather feel like going berserk. Afterall the past couple of living situations (domestic abuse, invasion of privacy, sexual harassment, a cheating live-in boyfriend). Any advice?
