Horrible work situation?
Ok I started a new job Aug 28th and so far its been going good, I have been getting compliments from other staff including the customers since day one on how well I have been doing, BUT TODAY was the day that CORPORATE came to visit. And management was bugging out, trying to make everythng SEEM PERFECT so they would look good. Only problem is, they were talking to us like we were NOTHING. I have never been treated like that by a job before. I was being yelled at. I got sent him because of my shirt…they said it was not appropriate. Its a white button up shirt but has not buttons at the very top(at my collar bone) so they didnt like it, but it wasn;t showing cleavage or anything. Mind you, everyone else has companys shirts, I bought my shirt on my own because they didnt have enough they said they had to order more.I drive 28miles a day to that job and to be sent home over something so petty (after being there less than an hour!)really blew my cool. And the way he said it was very RUDE.He said “Kelli, GO HOME” I was confused..I didn’t know if I was fired or what…Then he “said You know why I am sending you home right?”
I am very sensitive and I walked out and started to cry because I felt like I was being be-littled and I feel I deserve a better job but with the economy I had to take what I can get because in Detroit,Michigan its hard…with our mayor situation…Its tough finding employment.I had only planned to stay here for 6months and then move on….but now I am furious…I have been putting in apps all Day because when I quit I ant to have something to fall back on…This job doesn’t pay enough for the work they make me do, there is no union so they an treat us like crap and get away with it.The ONLY time they do things right is when corporate is coming because they have to cover their own butts.I just dont know how I am going to go back saturday after being treated the way I was treated.I NEED the job for right now but I dont want them to think they won. What should I do

Wow, I can understand that you must be feeling really hurt and betrayed right now. Understand that bullying never has anything to do with the victim, and everything to do with the perpetrator. Management were treating their staff apallingly because they were frightened of making a bad impression on those higher up in the pecking order – my guess is they receive the same bullying treatment from them (it always cascades down). Good on you for not accepting it – it sounds ingrained in the culture, and I know from personal experience that most companies turn a blind eye to bullying. So maybe take a day off, go hardcore on the job applications, call in every favour you can from old colleagues who may have a job for you, make your manager think you just love working there, but leave in your mind already, and move on. Life is too short to work for corporate psychopaths.

Keep the job but also keep looking.
Unfortunately it doesn’t matter who has “won” at the end of the day its a pay check for everyone.
I’m sure you need it. I’ve worked junky jobs because I really needed the money.
