I found this morning a tick on my dog. Its early spring so I thought it was strange. I don’t know how harmful it is, my dog seems fine but I’m not sure if it was carrying a disease. It is fairly big so I took most of it out but I think the head is still in. What should I do?

take the dog to the vet and fast. if the tick is carring a disease the faster you get your dog there the faster the can start preventive treatment.

The head needs to be removed. Do you have your dog on flea and tick preventative? If not, start now.
I would seriously consider making a vet appointment. To get the head removed and make sure your dog is okay.
Don’t panic. It can be taken care of before it gets out of hand if there is a possibility of Lyme disease.

Well, if you can get the rest of the head out, I would definitely try. But if not, it might just work its way out in a couple days. Watch it closely though. My moms dog actually got a bad blood infection from it and almost died from the disease the tick was carrying. Also Lyme disease is a big risk. Ticks can make animals anemic too because they take the iron out of their blood :/ Just make sure your dog is acting ok and make sure there are not any more ticks because when theres one theres a big chance of more.

You need to try to get the head out. Not that this is a normal vet thing but if you can’t get the head out with tweezers or maybe a needle even you’re going to need to visit the vet. Dog get ticks often so I don’t think you really need to worry about disease yet. Should your dog get sick then it might be a problem. You should give your dog a bath with shampoo for dogs that removes fleas and ticks. If the problem happens again you should invest in front line.

Your dog can get lyme disease from it! It’s not just anything, I got it, worse time of my life I coudln’t even walk since I got it on my leg.
1.Grab a tweezer
2. Take out tick with tweezer and put it in a ziplock bag and then the freezer
3. There could be some legs stuck or she could have gotten lyme disease so take her to the vet to get a blood test.
4. If he/she does have lyme disease the vet may ask you if you know what kindof tick since there are different kinds
5. Give the tick to the vet and the vet will give you meds that your dog may need to take from 1 to 2 months.

Take him to the vet, immediately! If that tick was carrying any kind of disease, your dog could be in serious danger. And if the head of the tick is still in him, then getting the rest of the tick off isn’t going to do a thing with the head still in. Sorry, but get help soon!

There are many variety of ticks and the worse ones are the paralysis ticks which you have to remove quick smart or to be frank the dog will not survive. It is all important whatever tick especially the one above you get rid of the head asa well as it will still attack the blood in the dog so if you cannot do it yourself if you have a friend who can use them or go to the vet pronto and he will remove it with some tweezers with a quick jerk of the wrist and that is all it takes as a rule.
The paralysis ticks literally suck the blood out of the body of your animal they inject their source and the animal starts to collapse in its hind legs which is the first sign of this kind of tick.other ticks merely carry diseases and also Must be eliminated. You can get products to avoid ticks nowadays so if you go to th vet ask what y ou should use.

put rubbing alcahol on it, The rubbing alcahol makes it hard to breath so it will come up for air, then just get it I guess.

Can you ID what kind of tick it is? Dog ticks don’t carry lyme disease, but deer ticks do. Dog ticks are big. Deer ticks are smaller than the head of a pin. I would save the tick and have the vet ID it. You need to get the head out with tweezers and disinfect the area. If lyme disease is present, a large red ring usually forms around the bite site.
You can now get your dog vaccinated against lyme disease, I highly reccomend it.
P.S. You should begin topical flea and tick protection (like Frontline or Advantix etc…) as soon as it is March and keep applying it monthly until the winter. You should also be giving heart worm medication monthly. These are important investments, as vet bills for disease are much more expensive, painful, and sometimes heartbreaking.
