Hi, Tis the fly season again and they are coming on like gang-busters! …. We keep all of our horse manure cleaned out of the stalls everyday, and let them air-out, keeping the piles away from the barn and horses..BUT, this year there seem to be a lot more…They are all over the sides of our house, and on the car hoods and decks…Got any natural remedies for fly control?

If you fill a ziplock baggy with water then hang it above the door on the door way the flies won’t come in. sounds weird I know, but it works. I have so many people that do it and they don’t have any flies in their house.

There is such a thing as a fly gun. Its this thing where you squeeze the trigger, and it releases a plastic disk attached to a string which is attached to trigger so you dont lose the disk. Does that make any sense? I’m pretty bad at explaining things. But any way, i went shopping on Chrissy late night shopping a couple of years ago, and bought one. It was very successful, although I don’t think I had nearly as many flies as it sounds like you do. But it was fun, and I actually went around my house looking for flies to kill. To my surprise, I had actually killed just about all of them. The best part is that it killes them with no mess at all. No fly guts, no fly blood squished everywhere. I really recomend this thing, but you do need time to go around hitting them. If you have a stable, then you probably dont have much time. Well, any way, good luck with operation-fly-be-gone.

I’m not as ambitious as Frank Buck above nor do I support the NRA so I just tie fly swatters to the horse’s tails and let them do the work.

I heard hanging a cd at the entrances will keep flies away… also a water filled baggy.

Arbico Organics makes a baited fly trap – it’s essentially a plastic pail with a yeast/water bait at the bottom. The flies enter and can’t escape. It’s supposed to work well, but it’s a little pricey….I think I’d try the baggie first!
