Does anyone else think Albert Pujols should have won the N.L. MVP over Ryan Howard?

Albert Pujols was on a record setting pace before his injury and the Cardinals played less than 500 ball without him in the 16 or so games he missed and then came back injured. He still posted over 49 homers, 137 RBI’S, and a .331 avg. Not to mention he not only carried his team to the playoffs but also a World Series victory. While Howard had a good year, his team didn’t even win a wild card spot in the playoffs and he struck out 181 times to Pujols 50 times. And as for well, Howard was a better slugger. Uh, no. Pujols had a higher slugging percentage too, tops in the league.

Does anyone give a hairy rat’s patoot? This is BASEBALL… THE most boring game ever invented… 5 seconds of ‘action’, followed by 90 seconds of spitting, butt-scratching, cup re-adjustment, addressing the plate… oh, wait, back off… 90 more seconds of spitting, butt-scratching and cup readjustment. “Here’s the pitch… low and outside… ball two.” YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNn!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET A LIFE – THIS IS BASEBALL!!! Does anyone even WATCH this crap anymore???

I thought Pujols had the edge. But after he lost and whined and complained so much, I’m glad he lost. Pujols needs to act like a man and keep his mouth shut. He’s a pro and should act like one.

Carried his team??? The Cards almost blew it due to the worst slump in baseball this year!!…. Postseason doesn’t matter because the votes are cast before the playoffs…. AND THE PHILLIES WON MORE GAMES THAN THE CARDINALS!!!! It’s to bad everyone is horrible in the cards division!! Howard was under soo much critizium the whole year to live up to Jim Thome’s previous career and he out did him and had the best NON-STERIOD home run season in the last 50 years…He also led the Phillies when they needed him after they traded away their team and decided not to contend till 2008… The Cards did have the worst slump in baseball this year that almost costs them their playoff spot… ALSO the phillies only have one other player, Chase Utley, who is actually worth a starting job anywhere else in the league… AP also had a protection bat behind him in Edmonds so he isn’t more than half the time……. who cares HOWARD won anyway!!

MVP versus the world series He should of been happy with the ring Howard may never get one until he signs with the Yankees

His team made the playoffs so that counts for something. The votes are actually cast the day of the playoffs starting so getting there does matter. As said before if he didn’t whine so much it would have made me sympathize more. But while he did get his team to the playoffs they didn’t have a very good record and only made it because the NL sucks.

Dude Im a Pujols fan but u gotta give it to Howard, he just had better numbers. Sure Pujols’ team made the playoffs in a much weaker division(the phills had a better record than the cards). The cards strted hot in the beginning of the year but they just dissapeared at the end of it almost chokin up a playoff spot. Meanwhile Howard went on a surge at the end of the year which put his team into contetion until the last days of the season. Sure the Cards won the world series but to say Pujols carried them there is really stretching besides the point that the MVP award is based on the regular season and not the postseason. Ur being really ticky-tacky with those stats. Howard had the better year simple as that.

check the records dude if the phillies were in the central they win the division. St. Louis won 83 games, gimme a break. Howard won it and deserved it.

i’m gonna make this one short.
i love albert. but this season, he was hurt and that cost him. howard tore it up. who knows if he’ll keep this up for his whole career. we all know pujols has for the last 5 seasons. he’s consistent and will win many more mvp’s in his career to go with his one from last year. if he would have stayed healthy he would have got it, but too much time away allowed howard to edge him out. playoff or not, both players were just as valuable to their respective teams, howard just had better numbers, with more games played.

yes, anyone who takes their team to the playoffs deserve a shot at the MVP. Otherwise how valuable are they really? Plus he’s the best player in baseball (just look at the numbers),and remember Pujols was injured for two weeks too. Howard did have a better year in some categories.

the cards won two less games than the phillies, poopholes neglected to mention that in his hissy fit. the only reason the cardinals even sniffed the playoffs was because they played in a much weaker division. and so what if poopholes was injured…HOWARD PUT UP BETTER NUMBERS!!!!!

I have no issues with Howard winning it, just as I would’ve had no issues if Pujols won. It was that close.
As an aside, playoff and World Series performance don’t factor into the MVP. The voting takes place after the regular season ends, but before the playoffs begins.
