Does anyone by chance know the name of this book?
Its been years since I’ve read this book, and as of late I’ve been looking for it but can’t seem to find it because I forgot the name.
It is about a girl who got burnt in a house fire trying to save her dead fathers paper work. I believe she goes to live with her aunt or grandmother who stuffs birds and collects butterflies. Along the way the girl becomes friends with faeries who have a water nymph for a daughter because their daughter and her were switched at birth.
The girls hands are wrapped in bandages and there is a very rude house maid that cleans her grandmothers house. While the girl is trying to get over the fire, the water nymph is trying to get to fly. She has a pet flying squirel that she saved from drowning. The only way she can fly is to get a feather from The KingFisher.
In the end the young girl sees that her faerie friends are nothing more than butterflies and they disappear.
If you have any information on how I can find this book please do say so.

This sounds a lot like “The Kingfisher’s Gift” by Susan Williams Beckhorn. The girl is named Fanny Morrow and after her father’s death she goes to live with her grandmother; her friends the fairies are with her too, and help her to search for the Kingfisher’s feather. Here’s a link to the book at the used book site Alibris, where they have it for sale for $1.99 (you can read a little more about the book there): http://www.alibris.com/booksearch?S=R&qisbn=0399237127&qsort=p&siteID=JaJqVekCebc-wSri2RtSmDhHTTiMeZ6xzw
Happy reading to you!
