Other than being non-symbiotic pesky disease ridden little pests that suck your blood and spread a mayhem of diseases in the process, do they contribute in any way to the ecological system?

They’re food for other things.

They’re all god’s creatures big and small. There is a purpose somewhere.

Well, there’s probably other organisms that feed on them. Or maybe they feed on things. Point is, they probably contribute to the ecological balance. If they were wiped, we would probably notice an imbalance somewhere in the ecosystem.

They do mostly just contribute as food in the circle of life.
