Do jellyfish have a purpose or are they just sent here to sting the crap out of people?

Seriously….Do they serve a “real” purpose in the ecosystem or are they like fire ants?

I am sure they are food for something or someone. Besides, who are you to say that stinging “…the crap out of people?” is not a purpose?

If you are religious, then the answer is God made all life for what ever purpose he deemed necessary. It does not matter wither or not we are aware or understand what that purpose is.
If you want something more along the lines of an evolutionary explanation, then every organism that is alive today is the result of the parent organism success in having the right stuff to survive the environment which it exist. The jellyfish has managed to survive its environment because it is able to paralyze its food so it will not swim away while it is being feed upon. The common purpose of all life forms is to spawn the next generation and continue the species. Having a higher purpose is not relevant
Philosophical – It is in man’s nature to try to make sense of the world around him. From birth until death, he will create pigeon holes that he will stuff bits of information in an attempt to sort information and seek relationships between events and things. What is… is. There does not need to be a purpose.
In the spiritual sense, the purpose of life is to live. The diversity of life on earth only strengthens the pool of life energy contained on this planet, making it a very unique place in the universe.
