Did my ant traps stop working?

We had a big ant problem in my house. We saw lots of ants everyday in almost every room. So we put traps (they contain poison and the ants take it back to the nest) out, and we saw a huge decease in the # of ants we saw. That was about 2 weeks ago. Well, now I am starting to see a lot of ants again! I am not seeing them in every room; just the kitchen. Is this a new nest of ants? Will they find the poison soon enough and die? What’s going on?

The ant traps don’t last forever. Throw them away and buy new ones. Usually they last about a month.

I’ve never had any luck with ant traps but then we have so many ants here….You need to get out and spray around the base of your house and doors and windows. We have every shape size and color of ant here and they can be dangerous. Be very careful if you have a baby or small child because they can get in their crib or bed. Here’s a hint about ants…just because you spray or whatever and reduce the population…they will breed and make a recovery pretty quick. You need to keep after them and forever. I actually…once…had a large swarm of ants come in over a wall in my living room. It was like a horror movie and they were black for about three feet across the walls. I ran to the store and got big time spray and sprayed and sprayed and finally killed or they retreated. it was awful. Then they came in over my front door…a huge swarm….This time I had spray. A day later they came in over my bathroom wall and were everywhere. i sprayed and sprayed and then I went outside and sprayed and sprayed. I watered and poisoned every little ant hole. I got fire ant killer and put it on the hills. I sprayed around all the trees. I probably will end up with cancer but I got rid of them. I even chased out those huge ones that have hills that go for miles. It was truly a war. My house is mainly made up of cement blocks…sturdy…but those darn itsy bitsy ants get in them and I can’tget themm out. Leave something and they swarm. It’s time to spray again. If you find a nest and don’t want to put out massive amounts of poison…I got rid of the big ants with cinnamon. I can buy large amounts over in Mexico and I turned it into the ground and finally they just decided to move on. That took months. Good luck and you will have to put up the good fight. Unless you can destroy the nest…and there are probably multiple nests…they will make lots more ants and the battle will go on until you win or move.
