Carpenter Ant Control?
We have had a carpenter ant problem in the ceiling of our summer mobile home for several years. The area is inaccessible to locate the nest.
I have found that drilling several holes in the ceiling (the size of the can) and forcing a “bug bomb” can tightly into the hole seems successful and the problem disappears for a couple years.
They were back this summer and I didn’t notice until now. I seldom see them in the house, but just found lots of sawdust in my closets. My question is, now that the weather is cooler and they seem less active, will the insecticide be effective if they are hibernating? Is it a waste of money and should I wait until Spring when they become more active?
The bombs seem very effective when I use them, just not sure if they work if they are hibernating.
Help!
Please note, the only access I have between the ceiling and the roof is the1-1/2″ hole I have drilled for the bombs. I’m not sure if/how I could place bait in there without enlarging the hole. I really don’t want to make the hole larger. This is a problem that has been on-going for many years and I suspect will continue because of our location on a saltwater bay (damp). So far the annual bombing has kept them away, but I missed the summer bombing this year.
Any suggestions for getting bait in there would also be welcomed!
Thanks for all the help

you need to kill the queen, before the colony will be destroyed. Bait traps that offer poisoned food, that will be carried back to the nest and fed to the queen. Available at all hardware stores.

there are two baits that are made for carpenter ants, the only baits that i have seen work on them. The one for your situation would be MaxForce Carpenter ant Gel. You would be able to get into the holes you drilled. The other is an exterior granules, Advance Carpenter Ant granules. Both can be found over the web, at do it yourself type pest stores or at pest control supply houses. Do make sure you have no tree limbs or shrubbery touching the home.
