Can my apartment manager kick me out for calling the health department?
I am SO SICK of these roaches. Pest control has come twice, I have put boric acid everywhere I can think if, I take out my garbage daily and I vacuum twice a week in case of crumbs. I have taped or stuffed every crack I can find, and I keep any open food in the refrigerator, even my cereal. I still have roaches, and I don’t know where they care coming from! I want my manager to take some serious action like getting the walls treated but she won’t. Can I be kicked out for calling the health department?
I can’t move for at least 6 months, I am in college and need to finish!
my neighbors do NOT care, i have tried to get them to cooperate, i even put up signs asking everyone to work together to be clean and they got ripped down in less than an hour ![]()

No, because the health department cannot reveal who the complainant is. Call them. That’s disgusting.

No, you cannot be kicked out for calling the health department. But, if the roaches are that bad, the health department could condemn the building and the result is the same, you’d have to move.

Well, if you did call and they did not approve of the apartment then you would be out due to it. I do not think that the manager could kick you out so no. Besides you could probably sue him if he did kick you out.

No way can he kick you out…call and keep on calling. That is disgusting! You have the right to call and you have the right to a roach free apt!
Where do you live? I have never seen a roach in my life. I know however that they carry germs and can cause health problems. Please call the health department. Also if any of your neighbours have the same problem, team up with them and you’ll have more power. Good luck to you, let us know how it turns out!

You need to concentrate on school work and nevermind the roaches. Just becareful, they bite ya know… Also, I just Home Depot is selling 10 packs of small plastic roache traps. They are like mini mouse traps. They have a spring and they snap when the roache tries to eat the food – they work

Not as long as you are in a lease. Just to keep the peace, when you call the health department, explain to them that you are concerned about hostility and you’d like to remain anonymous. I’m sure they’d understand.
You can read about your renters rights, just search for it online, they are very specific. It may be called the Fair Housing Act ???

No I don’t think that you could get kicked out for reporting unsanitary condition to the health department. But if you are worried you could do it anonymously.

Absolutly Not!!! She cannot evict you for calling the health department. In fact you can call anonmiously and or ask that your name not come up in the report. It is illegal for her to seek retrobution on you her not complying with city codes that are in effect to protect the renter. In fact in most states (check with an attornry first) you could even withhold rent until the problem is fixed properly.
Call legal aid in your area and tell them what you told us.The fact that you are in college and have limited funds.. Will actually help you with legal costs. If not they will do the service for you for free.Call them the initial consulation and advice is free and you have nothing to loose at this point.Don’t sit quiet for another minute. You or your fellow neighbors could get seriously ill from a roach infestation. Not to mention the psychological affetcs of sharing space with those creatures ewwwww.Make sure you note the date and times that you sppoke to your landlord about the problem this can really help you in your case. And if for some reason she finds out it was you.You will have everything documented so that she could not evict you or penalize you or harrass you about the problem.Good Luck sweetheart and if you need help finding the legal aid number do not hesitate to email me and I will find the right office for you in your area. My email is wildsunflower2003@yahoo.com
