Can i break my lease because of roaches?
I have lived in my apartments for almost 3 years. They are section 5 housing and there are about 5 or 6 people living in a 3 bedroom apartment in my building. about 6 months ago we all of a sudden got attacked by roaches. Some of my neighbors have moved because of them and it’s not just my building or apartment it’s several in the complex. I am a very clean and neat person and this is getting worse and worse I call every week to have pest control come out and spray and most of the time they come but they just do a quick spray and other times no one even shows up! One of the pest guys even told me that he told the office they have to pay him more to do some of the apartments because it is that bad! I have gone into the office personally and sat down and told them how gross this is and how unsanitary it is they are in my dish washer my fridge cabinets under my couch! I have used so many cans myself and traps and bombs and they just will not go away! my lease isn’t up for 3 months but I cannot do this any longer it’s making me not even want to be in my house! seriously I have a fly swatter nailed to my kitchen wall so I can slap them as soon as I see one! is it grounds to break my lease with out punishment on my record?

No, but you can request pest control. If they come every time you call, they have done their job.

Well, it should be, but you will have to fight for it. The apartment complex will most likely try to screw you out of you money and also put on a ding on your rental history. I would talk to the better business bureau and see what they say. They really helped out one of my friends in a similar situation. I don’t know if it will differ from state to state, but I would look into it. That is not a good living situation and management should be held accountable. I would also look over your lease and see what they signed on. They usually have to maintain a clean, healthy property. my lease states that they are responsible for pest removal and maintaining clean grounds. good luck

NO that is not legal grounds to break your lease. Since they are coming out when you call they are not breaking any laws.
I’m a property manager
