Can a dog tick pass disease to a toddler?

I just noticed a small tick in my grandaughters fold of her ear. I immediately was able to just pinch it out with my fingernails and put it into a jar just in case i have to show the doctor…its still alive, and i noticed it has some of her skin in its mouth. The area where it was, in her ear is reddish, but not too swollen. I loooked up a picture of it, and it is definetley a dog tick. Can they pass lymes disease to a baby? My friend has lymes disease, but she doesnt know what bit her.

If it really is a dog tick, then it can’t carry Lyme disease. That doesn’t mean your granddaughter is in the clear, though–dog ticks can carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (more common in the Appalachian areas, actually) and Tularemia fever.
Monitor her and call her pediatrician tomorrow for advice.
experience, I lived on a farm in southwestern ontario canada, the whole area, several small towns seem to be really bad with them

Ticks are vectors, so they have the potential to carry diseases, but I don’t think dog ticks carry Lyme Disease.
You should take her to the doctor just in case the tick might have been carrying some other types of disease.

Hello~
Dog ticks have NOT been ruled out concerning transmission of Lyme disease. Also, keep in mind that up to 60% of infected people never see a tick, a bite or a rash. Ticks can be as small as the period at the end of this sentence…so it’s often the tick you don’t see that is dangerous for infection.
Please see the following:

Be aware of any flu like symptoms or any type rashes or ANYTHING unusual. Children often show cognitive issues and stomach problems first.
Lyme disease is the fastest growing infectious disease in the US. Faster than AIDS, Avian Flu, and west Nile all put together with as many as 200,000 NEW cases per year.
Even your grandson is not infected now, please learn all you can for the future.
