Bug Spray on Puppies?

My 4 month old American Bulldog is covered in mosquito bites! I use a flea and tick product on him that is also supposed to repel mosquitoes, but it apparently isn’t working. I’m guessing that regular bug spray wouldn’t be good to use because he could lick it… does anyone have any advice for me? Do you know of any products that work and are safe to use on dogs?
To answer the question about why he is around so many mosquitoes… we live in Maine, in the woods, and he LOVES being outside… there isn’t a whole lot I can do about the mosquitoes being there, there are just too many.

I would only use a herbal bug spray, no harmful chemicals…
frequent user of DDT and a strong believer in insecticides and pesticides to wipe out horrible diseases.

That’s a big no-no.
Bug spray is not made for puppies, let alone adult dogs.
Try giving it a bath and then rub some Skin So Soft onto it’s skin.
Avon makes it. It ticks them off (the Avon reps), but it does make a great, safe repellent. Not a bad scent either.

Maybe if the stuff you got isnt working- you should get him checked for flea allergies.

Be very careful using products on puppies. You could easily kill them. Contact your vet and tell him the problem and see if he has a product that would work better. Also, look at where your dog is hanging out. Is there standing water? What is attracting the mosquitoes? Can you get a bug zapper or something? Don’t even use spray near your dog. It could kill him.

Maybe it’s not bug bites… it could be a rash from poison ivy or oak or whatever you have in maine…

no, no, no, no, no. Please don’t use anything you’d use on yourself on him. Check out Petsmart or a similar store, there you will be able to find something you can spray on him to keep the mosquitos from biting. From what you have described as your situation with him. I’d make sure that he has gotten a lyme tick disease vaccination as well as all his others. It’s an optional one, but with you being in the wooded area and all, it is probably a warranted precaution.

Bug spray could kill ur precious pup. if he/she licks it, it can b poisonous 2 ur dog. Try ‘OFF, Bug off for puppies/dogs.’

I use Bio Spot and have for over 10 years. No fleas, no ticks, and no other bites. It is otc or you can buy what the vets sell.
