Best flea products….safest house spray?
We have had fleas for three weeks. We administered frontline, which I am not all that pleased with to be honest at the beginning of July. We have been vacuuming and cleaning like nuts just like they say. We used a spray with Nylar about three weeks back too and we put down borax. The borax is causing problems for me and I am probably going to have to rent a cleaner for the carpet. My one kitten is still itching and I think they still have some but not as bad. We are hopefully getting them into the vet tomorrow. What is the best flea preventative other than frontline? Also, I am looking for a spray for the house. I cannot use any more powder products as they are hard on my lungs. I have heard of Ortho Home Defense. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks so much….

Frontline is a very good product, but occasionally fleas get resistant to one product or another and reduces its effectiveness. Since its been about 3 weeks since you administered the Frontline, you can now try Advantage. It should work. If it doesn’t, take the cat to the vet for a pill called Capstar that will do a one-time kill and get all the fleas off the cat. But it won’t work for 30 days like the Advantage would. You can try the Frontline again later – it’s fine to switch products from one month to the next and it prevents problems with resistance.
I have two dogs on Frontline Plus and a cat on Advantage and no fleas. I don’t use sprays or any other products in my home – my lungs are sensitive too.

For cats- try revolution. It is applied once a month like frontline and advantage. Revolution takes care of fleas, roundworm, hookworm, ear mites, and heartworm. Its highly recommened at my work. Also there is a product called ecto-kyl. Its a spray that you can use in your home. Ive used it and it has worked wonderfully.
Dogs I highly recommed frontline or advantix. Both work great.

For the house, to be honest, I don’t use a spray – I dust the floor, carpets, and cabinets with a mixture of diatomaceous earth and boric acid powder. It kills the little buggers quite neatly, and can be vacuumed up afterwords. Just be sure to get *all* the little corners where the bugs can hide.
Your vet will likely have a line on the boric acid powder, and any pool supply company will have diatomaceous earth.
Standard Frontline or Advantix treatment works well for the animals.

Get some “Advantage”, you get it at your vets, it gets rid of fleas and heart worm by just placing a drop of medication on the back of your pet between the shoulder blades, and it does everything all at once, but first wash your carpets with vinegar and warm water, if you don’t have the machine to do it, pay someone, it’s well worth it, then let dry, and then add the meds to your pet.

Whatever you use make sure it has pyrethrien in it. Adams makes products with it in it. I use their flea and tick spray and it works very well. It is available at your local feed store.
Not pymerthian cuz it’s not the same thing.

Salt on the carpet and all fabric furniture ect. Vinger and lemon juice solutions with water for topical rinses directly on both cats or dogs. We also used vinegar and water in a spray bottle for laundry etc. Vacuum at least twice a week, even the furniture, and change bags every time. Adult fleas will crawl back out of your vacuum.
Another thing that works is dish soap on a plate with a light on it. The fleas are attracted to it and then get stuck (like fly paper). Hope these old tricks work for you!
