Lifters are short cylindrical pieces in your engine that ride on the lobes of the camshaft to actuate the opening and closing of the valves in your cylinder head. It is a pretty large job to change them in this vehicle. Most likely they are not worn excessively. They are probably ‘gummed’ up with tarnish and dirty motor oil. Have you been changing your oil REGULARLY?
Before you have the lifters changed, try some ‘snake oil’ first. Get a can of Motor Flush. Have your Mechanic use it in your engine before your next oil change. It might clean out enough of the crud to help them work properly. If it still makes a little noise, add some Lucas Motor Oil Treatment to the engine oil. It can help put off a repair on a worn engine.
I dont know for certain, but I would guess that a lifter job on a Caravan could easily be $800-1200. Maybe less, maybe more…Good Luck!

If you don’t know what lifter are, then you can’t fix them.
