My dog has Lyme Disease. How do I treat it?

Ticks
My dog has lyme disease. We removed the tick, and now it’s swollen up and his parts are turning dark. He doesn’t have insurance, either. I don’t have the money for a vet. Is there any home remedies for it?

Your dog requires antibiotics prescribed under the care of a vet. There are no home remedies.

the only way to know your dog has lymes disease or any other tick disease is by having a blood test done by your vet. then your dog will need antibiotics prescribed by your vet.

How do you know the dog has Lyme Disease without him seeing the vet?
As a sufferer of chronic Lyme myself, I know there are no home remedies to cure it. You need a vet that will test blood, run titers and prescribe antibiotics.
This is very serious. Lyme disease is a lot more common than people think, and you need to act now.

When did you remove the tick? How do you know she has Lyme disease? The only real way to know for sure is Blood work. Normally lyme disease usually show 2 to 5 months after a bite from an infected tick.
Dogs show several different forms of the disease, but by far, the most common symptoms are a fever of between 103 and 105°, lameness, swelling in the joints, swollen lymph nodes, lethargy, and loss of appetite.
She needs to be seen by a Vet ASAP as they can prescribe oral doxycycline or amoxicillin. If you can’t afford the care, contact Animal Control, sign over your rights of the dog, and they will provide free care to her…
Part of being a reasonable pet owner is keeping them up to date on vaccinations.

Ok, swelling is normal. The wound should heal up in a day or so. Lyme disease isn’t immediately detected.
Chances are your dog doesn’t have Lyme disease. You really don’t know much about it. Lyme Disease maybe occurs in 1 in 100 tick bites. Very rare.
I have pulled ticks off dogs and this is what happens. There’s no need to make an emergency vet visit.
Edit: To the idiots giving me thumbs down…http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyme_disease
Edit: Ok, maybe 5 in every 100 ticks has Lyme Disease, but it’s very rare. I have pulled two ticks off one of my dogs(I have owned dogs for 20 years and only found two ticks), and nothing happened.

Lyme disease is the fastest growing infectious disease in the US. Larger than AIDS and West Nile Virus put together. It is very dangerous for dogs and humans. Beware of out dated info on the net and ignorant people who say otherwise. The Infectious Disease Society of America’s guidelines (set for human’s) have been found faulty by the Attorney General of CT, the panel has been removed and all facts of lyme and chronic lyme are now being reassessed for the truth.

Call your vet anyway even though you can’t afford it and tell him/her the situation. Perhaps they would allow you to pay over time and they often have donated medications and medical supplies they can give your pet. (My family and I donate everything we do not use to our vet for strays or others that need help)
***PLEASE watch this documentary trailer “Under Our Skin” by Open Eye Pictures…everyone is at risk but even more so if your dog has been infected.

I hope your dog feels better soon!
