Has anyone else received an email telling you that a relative of yours died during the tsunami?

………and that now that you have been located you are the recipient of the items in his/her will? A friend of mine received such a letter at the beginning of the week. I was a bit wary of it, but curious to see if this was real. When I got the same letter this morning, I was initially bummed for him and then ticked off realizing it was a scam. I have my email address posted on my profile here as does he. I wonder if anyone else from here received such a letter as well. Any way to figure out the source of the scam?

I think i have, i get lots of scam emails through yahoo everyday. I just automatically delete thim without looking. Lots of those emails have viruses attached to them and will harm your computer, others are just foreigners scamming everyone. I even get scam mail from people claiming to be from my bank account and needing me to update my account, but then on my bank account site where my actual mail from the bank comes doesnt have those emails to me. The internet is becomming pretty unsafe, i have 3 protectors on mine and still have this happen to me.

I have not. Sounds scary, though! Do they tell you who it is, and does that person really exist? If it were me, I’d do some investigating on the situation, knowing that it could be fake- but also may be true. Don’t give anyone your bank account, number, or anything. If they wanted info, I’d tell them to mail me something via snail mail and maybe review it with a lawyer. Most lawyers will visit with you free to let you know if it is something legal. If they want to help you, there will be a charge after your next meeting ( I believe- but don’t quote me!!
) For your sake, I hope it isn’t true!

No I haven’t and I’m sorry you did if it was just a prank. You do know if you have relatives abroad? Set your email settings to send such email to bulk or spam, if you can. That’s the typical stuff that nasty people like to play upon. Good luck.
